Fans of great songwriting definitely won’t want to miss “Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine,” which premieres at 4:30 p.m. June 11 on the late great artist’s YouTube and Facebook pages as well as on other platforms.
Just think of what the guest list might look like for this tribute, given that so many acclaimed musicians — from Bob Dylan and Bonnie Raitt to Kacey Musgraves and Roger Waters — were fans of Prine, the legendary singer-songwriter who died on April 7 from complications related to COVID-19.
(Our money is on Jason Isbell, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider and Raitt all showing up, although that’s just a guess since the lineup had not yet been released at the time this was written.)
The tribute is produced by the Prine family and Oh Boy Records — Prine’s longtime label — and will feature family and friends sharing both music and memories. It is also a fundraiser for “several charitable organizations including NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) and Alive, whose Grief Center is providing free counseling sessions to anyone in Middle Tennessee who has had a family member die of COVID-19,” according to an email from Oh Boy Records.
