Fred E. Srock Sr.
NEWFANE, NY — Fred E. Srock Sr. 95, Newfane, N.Y., formerly of Coalport, passed away peacefully Friday, July 8, 2016 at Newfane.
Born Dec. 25, 1920 at Coalport, he was a son of the late Henry Herman and Ruth Ann (Stephens) Srock.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars. When Fred got out of the Army, he went to auto body school and graduated first in his class. He worked at AutoLite for 17 years and then for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Niagara Falls, N.Y., where he retired after 24 years of service.
Fred enjoyed playing baseball when he was younger and continued being a sports fan, watching nightly. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and woodworking.
He is survived by his sons, Fred E. Jr. (Shirley Poole) of Newfane, Gary S. (Mary Rose Stevens) of Ransomville, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Joseph (Megan), Fred lll (Jennifer), Christopher (Dawn), and Crystal Srock; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Roger and Robert (JoAnne Skupine), all of Coalport. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dona L. Myers on Jan. 28, 2016, after 69 years of marriage; and brothers and sisters, Doretta Egler, Daniel, Charles, Richard, Corti Wilson, Mary, Leroy, Harry Calvin, and Sally Glass.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 18, 2016, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, with the Rev. Pastor Ronald Korzeniowski officiating. Interment will be at the Utahville Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Coalport VFW.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m.Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, PA 16627, with the Rev. Pastor Ronald Korzeniowski, officiating. Committal, Utahville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Coalport VFW.
