Campus Roundup: Fall season winding down for area athletes

Numerous athletes are participating in fall sports at several colleges this season, and a few of those have already stood out on the field. Here's a look at what some local athletes are accomplishing.

Football

Dave Richards, Clearfield: Richards is having a great season for Shippensburg, despite playing with two badly sprained ankles. Against Clarion, Richards had 92 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. He added 94 yards against Millersville on 13 carries with one touchdown. Richards also scored a touchdown and had 60 yards against Slippery Rock. The Raiders are 2-5 on the season.

Nick Sipes, Curwensville: Sipes leads the Clarion football team in tackles with 29 so far this season. He also kicked a 30-yard field goal against Slippery Rock, and has a fumble recovery to his credit. Clarion is 0-8 on the season.

Tanner Kelly, Clearfield: Kelly is quickly approaching the 2,000-yard passing mark for Albright College. He has completed 135 of his 200 passes so far for 1,913 yards and 17 touchdowns. Kelly has also ran in two touchdowns for the Lions, who are currently 6-1. He leads the Middle Atlantic Conference in seven categories.

Shawn Sopic, Curwensville: Sopic has 25 tackles to his credit and leads Clarion with two fumble recoveries this season. The Golden Eagles are 0-8.

Nate Sipes, Curwensville: Sipes has played in seven games for The Rock, carrying the ball three times for nine yards. He also has one kickoff return for 10 yards. Sipes also has five tackles for Slippery Rock, which is now 7-1 on the season.

Brandon Murarik, Moshannon Valley: Murarik had two tackles as a sophomore defensive back for Slippery Rock before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The Rock is 7-1 on the year.

Logan Small, Purchase Line: Small leads Saint Vincent College in rushing yards with 292 on 82 attempts. He has two touchdowns on the season and six receptions for 65 yards. Small has returned two kicks for 41 yards. The Bearcats are 0-7.

Adam Andrasko, West Branch: Andrasko has 56 tackles for Lock Haven, including three for loss. He also has a sack for the Eagles, who are 0-8 on the season.

Beau Ryan, Clearfield: Ryan has 18 tackles for Juniata College this year. The Eagles are 0-7 on the year.

Chad Gromley, Purchase Line: Gromley has played in two games for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania this season. He has one tackle for the Crimson Hawks, who are 6-1 on the year.

Men's Soccer

Lucas Feathers, Clearfield: Feathers has played in 16 games for Slippery Rock. He has one goal and an assist this season with 16 shots on goal. The Rock is 9-6-2 overall.

Alan Baldwin, Clearfield: Baldwin has played in seven games for Westminster College this season. He has one goal and an assist. The Titans are 9-5-3.

John Lhota, Clearfield: Lhota has played in eight games for Washington & Jefferson College. He has one shot on goal. The Presidents are 8-5-3.

Brandon McQuillen, Clearfield: McQuillen is the starting goalie for Penn State-Altoona. He has made 56 saves this season and started in all 15 games he has played. He has a 10-4 record for the Lions, who have an overall record of 13-4.

Mark Auman, Clearfield: Auman has played in ten games for Lock Haven University. He has one assist for the Eagles, which are 11-5 on the season.

Women's Soccer

Juliana Howell, Clearfield: Howell has started in seven games for Slippery Rock, and seen action in 14 games this year. She has two goals and an assist for The Rock, which is 14-3-1.

Alissa Murphy, Philipsburg-Osceola: Murphy has played in four games for Juniata College this season, starting one. The Eagles are 7-4-3 on the year.

Carrie Harsomchuck, West Branch: Harsomchuck has played in six games for Lycoming College, tallying one goal. The Lady Warriors are 9-6 overall.

Ali Yaple, Moshannon Valley: Yaple has started in 12 games for Mount Aloysius College. She has six shots on goal. The Mounties are 1-12.

Joanna Shylock, Moshannon Valley: Shylock has played in nine games for Mount Aloysius College. The Mounties are 1-12.

Andrea Dubensky, Philipsburg-Osceola: Dubensky has played in five games for Penn State-Altoona. The Lady Lions are 10-5-1 on the year.

Amber Weaver, Clearfield: Weaver is the starting goalie for Geneva College. She has started 12 games for the Golden Tornadoes. Weaver has 128 saves on the season. Geneva is 2-13-1.

Ashleigh Mohney, Clearfield: Mohney has started in 13 of 18 games for California University of Pennsylvania. She has five shots on goal. The Vulcans are 3-14-1.

Danielle Struble, Curwensville: Struble has started in 17 of 18 games for Pitt-Greensburg this season. She has five goals and eight assists. She leads the Bobcats in shots (43), points (18), assists and goals. Pitt-Greensburg is 6-11 on the year.

Cross County

Tara Sipe, Philipsburg-Osceola: Sipe finished 24th at the Hood College Invitational with a time of 27:10. She also placed 41st at the Harry Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan College with a time of 21:31.

Berlyn Hubler, West Branch: Hubler, a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, recently places 54th at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athlete Conference Women's Cross Country Championships in Wheeling, WV. Hubler finished the 6K course with a time of 30:17.

Volleyball

Erin Albert, Philipsburg-Osceola: Albert has started in 31 of 32 matches for Juniata College this year. She has 290 kills, 73 digs, 26 service points and 27 blocks. The Eagles are 29-3.

Haley White, West Branch: White has played in four matches for Clarion University, recording 17 kills and one dig. Clarion is 22-3 on the season.

 

Men's Swimming and Diving

John Lytle, Clearfield: Lytle won the 100-yard free for Notre Dame in a dual meet against USC with a time of 45.40. He also finished second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:39.31. Lytle's 400-yard free relay team also took second with a time of 3:08.56. Lytle was also a member of two winning relay teams and a runner-up team at the Dennis Stark Relays. UND is 1-0 in the season.

Ryan Sayers, Clearfield: Sayers is a sophomore member of the Washington & Jefferson swim team. The Presidents open the season on Nov. 3.

Nathan Taylor, Clearfield: Taylor is a sophomore member of the Washington & Jefferson swim team. The Presidents open the season on Nov. 3.

Chris Bodle, Clearfield: Bodle is swimming for Westminster College. The Titans open their season at the Titan Relay Carnival on Friday.

John Bodle, Clearfield: Bodle is swimming for Westminster College. The Titans open their season at the Titan Relay Carnival on Friday.
