Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center has an art show at Penn Highlands Clearfield, running through July 19. This show features club members with a variety of subjects and mediums. It is located on the first floor at the hospital.
Susquehanna River Art Center announces the exhibit of artwork by Vanetta Irwin of Osceola Mills at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, through Aug. 2. More than 40 paintings will be shown. Some of the artwork is for sale and a percentage of the sales will be donated to the library. SRAC encourages the public to view this large collection of artwork, including pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oil.
The Vine Free Methodist Church, 520 Turnpike Ave., Clearfield, free clothing closet will be open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothing donations will be received Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m.
Grice Clearfield Community Museum, located at Fourth and Pine streets in Clearfield, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum features more than 75 classic or antique show cars and more than 500 trophy game animal mounts. A collection of Kevin Litz model cars and motorcycles (1/18 scale) is also on display. Admission is $5 for adults. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free with an adult admission. Group rates are available. There is a gift shop and free parking.

A fireworks display will be held Friday at 9:30 p.m. at Curwensville Moose Family Center, located on Bailor Drive, Curwensville.
Fourth of July party
Susquehanna Community Grange will hold a Fourth of July party at the Curwensville Community Center Friday at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by disc jockey Zack McGarry.
Food and drinks will be provided and everyone is welcome.
The Mountz Park Summer Festival will be held Saturday from 1-10 p.m. at Mountz Park, Janesville. The festival, sponsored by the Janesville Civic Association, will feature food, games, raffles, prizes and other activities. To pre-register for the pie-eating contest or for vendor spaces, contact Judy at 378-7278. Some spaces are also available for the horseshoe tournament. Fireworks will close the festival at 10 p.m.
The Coalport flea/farmer's market will be open Saturday at Beechwood Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors are welcome. Food will be available. For more information, call Nancy at 672-5046.
The Brandon Denochick Memorial Race will be held Saturday at Flat Run Speedway in Morrisdale. The race is a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation. There will be a crazy auction which includes two tickets to the Gobowling.com 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Pocono Raceway Aug. 3, State College Spikes and Altoona Curve tickets, tickets to DelGrosso's and Lakemont amusement parks, lottery tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates and more.
There will also be a 50/50, lap sponsorship for Make-A-Wish in memory of Brandon, a bake sale and more. Gates open at 1 p.m. and racing starts at 4 p.m., with a rain date being Sunday. The concessions will be open as well. For more information, call Sandy at 553-1689.
Madera Fire Co. will hold an auction Sunday at 1 p.m. at the firehall. There will be frozen meat, paper products and miscellaneous items. The kitchen will be open and Charlie Fisher is the auctioneer. Proceeds benefit Madera Fire Co.
Philipsburg Historical Foundation museum and research rooms, located on the third floor at 203 N. Front St., Philipsburg, will be open Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and each Sunday through Sept. 7.
The Union "Old Mud" Church on East Presqueisle Street in Philipsburg will be open Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and each Sunday through Sept. 7.
A pet parade will be held Saturday at noon starting at Osceola Mills Elementary School and will end at Columbia Fire Co. firehall for Kid's Day. The carnival will also be open from noon to 4 p.m.
Shotgun shoot/board meeting
West Decatur Sportsmen's Club is hosting a 22-shotgun shoot Sunday at 1 p.m. A board meeting will follow at 5 p.m. All members are asked to attend, as the club will be discussing business matters pertaining to the land and building.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
