Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community.
All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.


Art shows
Susquehanna River Art Center's exhibit of Willard Dominick's paintings ends July 3 at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield. Dominick, a well-known Clearfield Area High School art teacher, is a member and past officer of the SRAC Art Club, and is the SRAC artist of the year. The art club is also exhibiting paintings at Ethan's Café in downtown Clearfield.
Susquehanna River Art Center has an art show at Penn Highlands Clearfield, which runs through July 19. This show features club members and varied subjects and mediums. The show is located on the first floor at the hospital.

Band to play
Grampian Community Band will play at Glen Richey Firemen's Recreation Park Thursday at 7 p.m. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.

Museum open
Grice Clearfield Community Museum, located at Fourth and Pine streets, Clearfield, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum features more than 75 antique or classic show cars and more than 500 trophy game animal mounts. Also featured is the Kevin Litz collection of more than 1,000 model cars and motorcycles (1/18 scale). Admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and younger are admitted free with an adult purchase. Group rates are available. There is a gift shop and lots of free parking. For more information, call 768-7332.

Archery shoot
West Decatur Sportsmen's club will host a 3D archery night owl shoot Saturday. Registration begins at 9 p.m. The price is $10 per person. Bring a friend and a flashlight. For additional information, call 342-1827 or 553-6099.

Mahaffey Fire Department will hold an auction Saturday at 3 p.m. The kitchen and the doors open at 2 p.m. There will be all new items, food, and various items. Auctioneer is Deb.

Benefit dinner
A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. at the New Millport Park pavilion. The dinner is for Debbie Condon, who was recently involved in an automobile accident. The cost is $10 for eat-in or takeout. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. There will also be a Chinese auction with tickets available at the event. Cancer carnival
A cancer carnival will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Woodland Park. The annual festival helps raise money for cancer patients within the community. There will be baked goods, a kitchen full of food, 50/50 drawing, balloon launch and more. The carnival will be expanding this year, with more kids' games such as spray tattoos and face paintings. Chicken barbecues
Hyde Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday from 11 a.m. until sold out.
The dinner is $8 and includes half a chicken, baked beans, roll and dessert. Only 150 meals are available. Call 553-3347 to reserve a meal, and for takeout or delivery, call 768-9407.
A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield. The time for pickup is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will be takeout only. The price is $9, which includes macaroni salad, baked beans, roll and dessert.
Only 200 dinners will be available at the church parking lot. Call the church office at 765-9222 to reserve dinners.

Flea market
A flea market will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Pink Carriage, located on Deer Creek Road in Morrisdale. Vendors will have a mix of crafts, antiques, primitive items and more. Food will also be available. Vendors are welcome at $10 per booth. For more information, call 577-3792.

Free soup and bread
Free hot homemade soup and bread will be distributed to the community Saturday at noon at God's Clear View Ministries, 1946 Pardee Road, (The Old Morris School), Morrisdale. Also, the fundraiser and blessing shop will be open.

Rabies clinic
A rabies clinic will be held Saturday from 1:30-3 p.m. at Hyde firehall. The cost is $10 per pet. Dr. Ronald K. Herring and Dr. Erin DeSantis will be the veterinarians.
All proceeds will benefit Hyde Fire Co.

Shoe bank
The West Branch Area Shoe Bank will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Morrisdale United Methodist Church, located along state Route 53 in Morrisdale.
All children up to age 18 can receive new sneakers if they have a CHIP or Access card; children must be accompanied by an adult. Children up to 2 years old can receive new sneakers every three months, while children ages 3-18 can receive new sneakers every six months. There is also a large supply of gently used shoes for everyone.

Breakfast buffet
A breakfast buffet will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Smokehouse, Curwensville. The menu includes eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, waffles, coffee, tea or juice. Prices are $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 5 and younger. Senior citizens will receive an additional 10 percent discount. Proceeds benefit Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.

Charity ride
The Moose Riders will hold a charity cancer ride for Linda Knepp Sunday, with sign-up at 10 a.m. at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268. Proceeds will go toward Knepp's medical bills. Kick stands up at 11 a.m. Prices to ride are $10 per rider, and $5 per passenger. For more information, contact Charlie Peters at 577-5425.

Chicken barbecues
Glen Hope Fire Co. will host the annual chicken barbecue Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at Glen Hope Community Park. The menu includes half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce, chips, roll and dessert. Dinners are $9. A crazy auction will also be held along with a cash drawing.
Osceola Mills Recreation Committee will host a barbecue chicken dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lingle Street Park. Cost is $8.50 per meal. For more information, call 339-7412.

Museums open
The Philipsburg Historical Foundation museum and research rooms, located on the third floor of 203 N. Front St., Philipsburg, will be open Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and each Sunday through Sept. 7.
The Union "Old Mud" Church on East Presqueisle Street in Philipsburg will be open Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and each Sunday through Sept. 7.

Splash Hop
The Clear-Centre Pool in Osceola Mills will hold a Splash Hop Sunday from 8-10 p.m.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
