Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center announced a new art exhibit has been displayed at Penn Highlands Clearfield, first floor. This exhibit features various subjects and mediums. A donation is made to the Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary by the artists when their artwork is sold.
Anyone wishing to purchase a painting or photography should contact the artists to make arrangements for purchase. SRAC Art Club membership applications are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield. For club information, call 765-5621 or 236-3051.
The Susquehanna River Art Center will feature the photography of Dan Mohney and Anita Graham at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library now through March 31. Their photography covers many subjects and seasons. Anyone that has special interests in photography may want to join the SRAC Art Club. Membership applications are available at the library.
A paddle party will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Houtzdale fire hall. Proceeds benefit Josh Burley, who was injured in a vehicle accident in January. He remains hospitalized at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $3 and includes one paddle, while extra paddles will be $1. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, game specials and a Chinese auction.
St. Timothy's Catholic Church's Altar and Rosary Society will sponsor its annual Lenten dinners Fridays from 4-6:30 p.m. through April 11. Prices are $9 for adults and $5 for children 6 and older for baked fish, deep-fried fish, fried shrimp or crab cake dinners. Children 5 and younger eat for free. Meals may be eaten in or taken out. Tickets will be sold at the door.
A Lenten fish dinner will be held at Columbia firehall in Osceola Mills Friday from 4-7 p.m.
The menu includes a choice of fried or baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetables and stewed tomatoes. A full salad bar and two soups are available for dine-in only. Prices are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children. Takeouts are available. Delivery is available by calling 339-5046.
A fish dinner will be held every Friday from 4-7 p.m. through April 18 in the Hyde Fire Co. social hall. The meal includes a choice of baked or fried haddock with choice of french fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, roll and fruit. Prices are $9 for adults and $4 for children. Takeouts will be available. Free local deliveries will be made by calling 768-9407.
Blain City Veterans of Foreign Wars Richard L. Beers Post No. 7043 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Lenten fish dinner Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the VFW post. Cost of the dinner is $7. Takeouts are available by calling the post at 672-5968.
Ramey Fire Co. will serve a Lenten fish dinner Friday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The menu is a choice of baked of fried fish, potato, vegetables, stewed tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, and various other sides. It is served with soup and salad bar for eat-in only. Chicken planks will also be available. Prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. Takeouts will be available. All proceeds benefit the fire company.
St. Severin's Church, Drifting, will hold a fish dinner Friday at the social hall from 4-6:30 p.m. Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for a small portion. The menu is baked or fried fish, parslied potatoes, vegetable, slaw or applesauce, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, roll, dessert and beverage. Eat-in or takeouts available. A Lenten fish dinner will be served at the Freeburg Social Club at Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591 Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $9 and the meal includes baked or fried fish.
Steak or fish dinners will served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at The Smokehouse, Curwensville. The cost is $8.99 per meal, which includes a choice of meat and three sides. Proceeds benefit Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.
Westover United Methodist Church will hold a Lenten fish dinner on Friday from 4-7 p.m. The price is $8 for $5 for children. The menu includes baked or fried fish, stewed tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, dessert and dinner roll.
Glendale Area Public Library will hold a book sale at the Coalport Community Building Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Reading material is $2.50 a bag.
A benefit event for Lane Ciamacco, 5, of Grampian, who is hospitalized at Children's Institute of Pittsburgh with limbic encephalitis, will be held Saturday at the Curwensville Community Center. A soup, sandwich and bake sale, and basket and 50/50 raffles begin at 11 a.m.
A Zumba fitness benefit will be held from 2-4 p.m., featuring 10 instructors and various types of Zumba as well as Body Combat and yoga demonstrations. The cost for the Zumba benefit is $10 for an advance ticket or $15 at the door. To reserve admission, call 236-1071 or 236-2422.
A free community dinner will be held at the Goshen Township fire hall Saturday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, roll and dessert. The entire community is invited to share in this free meal and fellowship. The dinner is sponsored by the Greater Shawville Parish of the United Methodist Church.
A soup sale will be held at Irvona United Methodist Church Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Soups available at $5 per quart are vegetable, chili, stuffed pepper, chicken noodle, turkey noodle, and ham and bean. Hot dogs with the works will also available.
Country music will be presented at the Luthersburg Community Center on Saturday. Doors and the kitchen open at 6 p.m. Music by Spruce Creek will be at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Brady Township Park and Recreation Board.
The community shoe bank of the Ramey area, serving children in the Moshannon Valley and Glendale school districts, will be held Saturday at the Ramey United Methodist Church social room from 9-11 a.m. Use the basement entrance at the rear of the church. In case of inclement weather, the shoe bank will be closed. Call the church office at 378-5186 during snow or ice storms before going. Children ages 3-18 may visit every six months, and children newborn to 2 may visit every three months. Children must be present and accompanied by a parent or guardian, and must show their current Access or CHIP card. Also, gently used shoes are available for everyone.
Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 121 South Front St., Philipsburg, will be holding the Philipsburg-Osceola Shoe Bank Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children may receive a new pair of sneakers for free if they present an Access or CHIP card. The child must be present to be measured and receive the shoes. Children will receive a pair of sneakers every six months; infants younger than 3 will receive a new pair every three months. Distribution notices are also posted on the website at http://www.tumc122.org/.
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, new pair of socks, stuffed animal and a book. There will also be boots, mittens, winter hats and scarves. Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Gearhartville Sportsmen's Club, Philipsburg, will hold an auction Sunday at 3 p.m. The kitchen opens at 2 p.m.
The Clearfield Elks Lodge No. 540 will serve a family breakfast Sunday from 8-10 a.m. at the lodge, located at 301 North Second St. in Clearfield. The breakfast is $5 per person and includes sausage, eggs, home fries, toast, coffee and juice. Proceeds benefit Elks charities.
A breakfast buffet will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Smokehouse, Curwensville. Prices are $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children. Senior citizens will receive a 10 percent discount off the cost of their meal. The meal includes eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, waffles and beverages. Proceeds benefit Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.
The Leigey-Renaud Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8386, Frenchville, will be serving breakfast Sunday at the post home from 8-11 a.m. The menu will be bacon and eggs, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.
A stuffed chicken breast dinner will be served Sunday at Mountain Top Fire Station, Sandy Ridge, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will feature stuffed chicken breast, potatoes and gravy, vegetable, roll and dessert. Prices are $8 for adults, $4 for children, and younger than 3 eat for free. Takeouts are available, and it is all-you-can-eat when eating in.
Roast beef dinner
Madera Fire Co. will be hosting a roast beef dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the fire hall. The meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad bar, roll, dessert, and a coffee and punch drink station. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $4.25 for children younger than 10. Meals are available for eat-in or takeout.
A spaghetti dinner will be held Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Ramey. Prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children 7-12, and free for children 6 and younger. The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, salad and dessert. Takeouts will be available.

Glen Richey Sportsmen's Club will hold a trap shoot on Sunday at 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per round. Hit the white bird and get a free round.
