Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Thursday

Art exhibits
Susquehanna River Art Center announced a new art exhibit at Clearfield Hospital, on the first floor. This exhibit features various subjects and mediums. A donation is made to Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary by the artists when their artwork is sold. Anyone wishing to purchase a painting or photography should contact the artists to make arrangements for purchase.
SRAC Art Club membership applications are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield. For club information, call 765-5621 or 236-3051.

Susquehanna River Art Center's February artist showcase at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, features the abstract paintings of Judith Davidson of Luthersburg. The artwork may be viewed during the library's regular operating hours. Membership forms for SRAC are available at the library.

Friday
Wings and things
Mahaffey Fire Co. will host a wings and things event Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the firehall. Nine flavors of wing sauce and hero fries will be available. Food will be available for eat-in or takeout. For faster service, call 277-6639 to pre-order.

Saturday
Bake/soup sale
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Victoria No. 646 will hold a bake and soup sale at Christ the King Parish Center, Houtzdale, Saturday from 4-6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Containers will be provided. This is the only yearly fundraiser the organization conducts.

Church bazaar
Lake Street United Methodist Church, Woodland, will hold a church bazaar Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be numerous white elephant items available, and soup and sandwiches will be available for takeout. Also, baked good items will be for sale.

Country music
Country music will be presented at Luthersburg Community Center Saturday. Doors and kitchen open at 6 p.m., and music by Down Country will start at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Brady Township Park and Recreation Board.

Sneaker closet
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, new pair of socks, stuffed animal and a book. There will also be boots, mittens, winter hats and scarves. Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Shoe bank
West Branch Area Shoe Bank will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Morrisdale United Methodist Church, located along state Route 53 in Morrisdale. All children up to age 18 can receive new sneakers with a CHIP or Access card; children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is also a large supply of gently used shoes, boots, hats and mittens for everyone. In the case of inclement weather, the shoe bank will be canceled.

Spaghetti dinners
St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, will hold a benefit spaghetti dinner for Monica Smith Saturday from 4-7 p.m. Prices are $7 for adults and $3 for children. Takeouts will be available, and walk-ins are welcome. Reservations are available by calling 592-7871.

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268 to benefit Linda Knepp, who is battling breast cancer.
Prices are $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. Takeouts will be available, while supplies last. There will also be a 50-50 raffle, bake sale and Chinese auction. For more information, call 553-7082.

Sunday
Breakfast
Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey-Renaud Post No. 8386 will serve breakfast Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the post home. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.
