Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.


Art shows
Susquehanna River Art Center winter art show, displayed at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, ends Monday. Many paintings are for sale and a percentage of sales are donated to the library by the artists. If interested in purchasing a painting or photography, contact information is listed on a card beside the artwork. SRAC membership applications are available at the library.
Susquehanna River Art Center announced a new art exhibit at Clearfield Hospital, first floor. This exhibit features many different subjects and mediums. A donation is made to Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary by the artists when their artwork is sold. Anyone wishing to purchase a painting or photography should contact the artists to make arrangements. SRAC Art Club membership applications are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield.

Steak or fish dinners will be served each Friday from 4-7 p.m. at The Smokehouse, Curwensville. The cost is $8.99 per meal, which includes three sides. Proceeds benefit Rescue Hose and Ladder Fire Co. of Curwensville.

Free meal
A free community meal will be offered Friday from 4:30-7 p.m. at Grampian Church of God.

St. Basil Altar Rosary Society, Coalport, will have its mid-winter bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A basket party, craft tables, 50-50, soup at $5 per quart, sandwiches and a bake sale will also be available. Everyone is welcome.

Benefit dinner
A benefit spaghetti dinner for Mark Desmett will be held Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Oak Ridge Union Church fellowship hall. The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, desserts and drinks. There will also be a Chinese auction. Prices $6 for adults and $3 for children younger 10. Takeouts are available. Call 236-2451 for directions or information.

Book sale
The Friends of Holt Memorial Library of Philipsburg is having its monthly book sale Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs of the library. Hardback books cost $1, while most paperbacks are 25 cents. There are plenty of new selections from which to choose.

Goshen Township Sportsman will have a breakfast Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at the Goshen Township building. The meal includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice at a cost of $6. There will also be club memberships and corn cards available at this time.
A breakfast will be held Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at Mosquito Creek Sportsmen's Association.
The menu includes bacon, eggs, home fries, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Corn will be distributed until 11 a.m. The breakfast is sponsored by the Ladies of the MCS.
Cooper Township Sportsmen's Club, Winburne, will host a breakfast Saturday from 7-10 a.m. Prices are $7 for adults and $4 for children. The meal includes eggs (any style), choice of ham, bacon, and sausage, home fries, juice and coffee. Corn will also be sold with a two-bag limit at $5 per bag. Those participating must have a current membership to receive corn.
Proceeds benefit game feed and fish stocking.

Sneaker closet
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through 18 years can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. There will be boots, mittens, winter hats and scarves. Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Yard soup and sandwich sale
Osceola Rec Committee will have a yard sale and soup and sandwich sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the borough building. To order ahead or for more information, call Cathy at 339-7067. Bring your own containers.

Madera Fire Co. will hold an auction Sunday at 1 p.m. at the firehall. There will be frozen meat, groceries, miscellaneous items and so much more. The kitchen will be open.

Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will hold a breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. Cost is $5, and the public is invited.

A roast beef dinner to benefit Ryan Thomas' Eagle Scout project will be held Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Houtzdale. Prices are $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12 and free for children younger than 6. Takeouts will also be available.
A roast beef dinner will be served at Glen Hope firehall Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, coleslaw or applesauce, roll, drink and dessert. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. Dine-in or takeouts are available.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number. The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
