Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center's artist's showcase ends tomorrow at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield. The show features club members Gloria Rowles, Anna Marie Toto and Dottie Evans Crissman. It includes watercolor, watercolor pencils, pastels, acrylics, mixed medium and colored pencils. The exhibit may be viewed during the library's regular operating hours.
Susquehanna River Art Center announces its new art exhibit on display on the first floor of Clearfield Hospital. This art show can be viewed through Jan. 18. Anyone interested in purchasing a painting or photography should contact the artist to make arrangements.
A percentage of sales are donated to Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary by the artists. Membership applications for the art club are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield.
Grampian Community Band's annual Christmas concert will be presented Thursday at 7 p.m. at Heritage Hall, Grampian. Admission is free.
"Search for Peace" Christmas pageant will be presented Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Curwensville United Methodist Church. Seats for the presentation are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are suggested for groups of more than 10 people, and can be made by calling the church's office at 236-1976. Reserved seating will be held until 30 minutes before the start of each show. Admission is free.
A fish dinner will be served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Columbia Fire Co. firehall, Osceola Mills.
Prices are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children. The menu includes a choice of fried or baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetables and stewed tomatoes. A full salad bar and two soups are available for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available.
The community Christmas tree at Westover will be lit Friday at 6 p.m. The tree is located along state Route 36 near Country Supply. Children are invited across the street to the basement of Westover-Grace United Methodist Church to visit with Santa Claus and have refreshments.
Breakfast With Santa
Morris Township Volunteer Fire Co., 104 Deer Creek Road, Morrisdale, will host breakfast with Santa Saturday. Breakfast starts at 6 a.m. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Santa will arrive at 10 a.m. and depart at noon. All children visiting Santa will receive a special treat.
A Christmas bazaar will be held Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Sandy Ridge, starting at 8 a.m. There will be Christmas items available along with crafts, baked goods and candy. Lunch will be available with soup, sandwiches, dessert and more.
The Clearfield YMCA Christmas parade will start at noon Saturday. It can be viewed on Market Street in front of the Clearfield County Courthouse, or on North Second Street in front of the YMCA. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance. Everyone is invited into the YMCA after the parade to see Santa, and have hot chocolate and a cookie. The Downriver Christmas party and lunch with Santa will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Church social hall. Lunch and treats will be provided to children 12 and younger.
The event is sponsored by St. Mary's Church, Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386 and the Ladies of MCS.
Cookie and soup sale
The annual Christmas cookie and soup sale will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church's social hall.
A cookie walk fundraiser to benefit Philipsburg-Osceola music programs will be held Saturday from 12:30-3 p.m. at the Rowland Theatre, located on Front Street in Philipsburg. Buyers pick their cookies at $5 per box. For more information, call Connie Bainey at 339-6281.
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, stuffed animal and book. There will also be boots, mittens, winter hats and scarves. Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be present to receive sneakers and boots. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.
A model train show is being held Wednesday through Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, located at Seventh and Dorey streets, Clearfield. A pancake and sausage breakfast will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Prices are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and younger.
CNB Bank's Philipsburg Plaza office will hold "Christmas Cheer at the Rowland Theatre" Sunday to raise funds for the digital projector conversion. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and a showing of the movie "Elf" will start at 2 p.m., followed by drawings for the Chinese auction. Tickets are available for purchase at CNB Bank prior to the event, or at Rowland Theatre the day of the event. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. A boy's and girl's bike will be given away at the event, and each child's ticket will include a free chance to win.
Wallaceton Fire Co. will hold a breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. The meal includes eggs, toast, pancakes, bacon or sausage and home fries. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10.
Clearfield B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 540 will have a family breakfast Sunday from 8-10 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 301 N. Second St. The breakfast includes ham, eggs, homefries, toast, coffee and juice. The cost is $5. The public is welcome. All proceeds benefit Elks charities.
A Christmas auction will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hyde Fire Co., featuring the Rose Court Auction Gallery. The kitchen will be open.
Cooper Township Sportsmen's Club will hold its annual Christmas party Sunday at 2 p.m.; the meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse. Members and guests are welcome. Meat and beverage will be provided, and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish, if possible. Santa Claus will also be making an appearance for the children.
Madera Fire Co. will hold a meatloaf dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehall. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $4.25 for children younger than 12. The meal includes meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans and dessert. There will also be a salad bar and drink station. Takeouts will be available. Also, Santa will be on hand Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the firehall.
A paddle party/quarter auction to benefit Susquehanna Community Grange will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268. The first paddle is $3 and additional paddles are $1. There will be door prizes, and those attending are asked to bring quarters. Doors open at 2 p.m. There will be new vendors and the kitchen will be open.
Roast beef dinner
A roast beef dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mountain Top Fire Station, Sandy Ridge. Prices are $8 for adults, $4 for children and free for children 3 and younger. The meal includes roast beef and noodles, potatoes with gravy, vegetable, roll and dessert. It is all-you-can-eat while eating in, and takeouts are available by calling 342-5014.
Hyde Fire Co. will hold a Salad Sunday on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal includes a choice of chicken, steak or taco salad, with roll, drink and dessert. Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children. Chicken fingers and fries are available for the children's meal.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
