Centre commissioners approve contracts
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
By Terry Whetstone Staff Writer
BELLEFONTE - The Centre County Commissioners held quite possibly the shortest meeting they have ever had yesterday, as the motion to adjourn the meeting came five minutes after it was called to order.
Carol Waltz, administrator of Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention and Drug and Alcohol was the only person on the agenda and she had two contracts for which she sought approval. The two contracts totaled just under $200,000.
The first was with Dr. John Boswell to provide psychiatric services, court testimony and case consultation for children and adolescents.
The contract total is $33,280. The second is with Dr. Rashid S. Chaudhry to provide the same services. His contract total is $166,400.
Waltz said the amount is not to exceed the amounts approved and she said one doctor has resigned so that will save the county money and the patients that doctor would have seen will be divvied up between the other doctors. Both contracts are effective July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.
Both were approved unanimously.
The commissioners said they have not heard anything new pertaining to Centre Crest Nursing Home. County administrator Tim Boyde said there are currently 208 patients and the number is holding pretty steady. The most has been 213. The home has a capacity of 240 and he said it's been a while since that number has been reached.
Commissioner Michael Pipe said there will be a volunteer dinner tomorrow for those who volunteer their time at the home and make it the success it is.
Pipe also noted there are 107,959 registered voters in the county and that number is up 13 from the last report.
