Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public.  The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Thursday

Art shows
Sherry Appleton is exhibiting her artwork at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, through March 1. Appleton is a member of Susquehanna River Art Center, which is a sponsor of this event. The artist's showcases give member artists an opportunity to exhibit their artwork for a month at the library. A percentage of any painting sold is donated to the library. Appleton instructs pastel classes at Clearfield Center for Active Living. She can be contacted by calling 791-4472. The March Showcase will feature a sale of the late William Patton Brown's paintings.

Susquehanna River Art Center is exhibiting members' artwork in the Clearfield Hospital first floor through March 15. Some of the artwork is for sale and a percentage of sold artwork is donated to the Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary. This show features many themes and mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, pastels and soils. Karen Neeper, SRAC member, is the organizer of the hospital show and assisted by the club's show committee. Membership applications for the SRAC art club are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield.

Friday
Fish dinners
A Lenten fish dinner will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Columbia Fire Co., Osceola Mills.
Prices are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children. The menu includes a choice of fried of baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetable, stewed tomatoes, and a full salad bar and two soups for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available. Call 339-5046 for deliveries.

St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church will serve a Lenten dinner Friday from 4-6:30 p.m. at the church's social hall, 306 Walnut St., Curwensville. Prices for baked or deep fried fish dinners are $8 for adults and $4 for children, and for fried shrimp or crab cakes dinners, $9 for adults and $4 for children. Tickets are available at the door. Meals may be eaten in or taken out.

A fish dinner will be held Friday from 3:30-7 p.m. at Hyde Fire Co. in the social hall. The menu includes a choice of baked or fried haddock with a choice of French fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, roll and fruit. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children. A Lenten fish dinner will be served Friday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Ramey Fire Co. The menu includes a choice of baked or fried fish, with chicken planks also available, potato, vegetables, stewed tomatoes and macaroni and cheese. Soup and salad bar are available for eat-in only. Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. Takeouts will be available. Proceeds benefit the fire company.

The menu includes baked or fried fish, parslied potatoes, vegetable, coleslaw or applesauce, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, roll, dessert and beverage. Eat-in or takeouts are available. Blain City Veterans of Foreign Wars Richard L. Beers Post No. 7043 Ladies Auxiliary is serving Lenten fish dinners Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the post home. Price is $7 and meals are available for eat-in or takeout. The public is welcome.

Free dinner
A free community dinner will be held Friday from 4:30-7 p.m. at Grampian Church of God.

Yard sale
A parish house yard sale to benefit the roof fund will be held Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Second St., Clearfield. Items include household items, tools, stain, paint, miscellaneous items, books, furniture, Walmart items, appliances and more. Food and baked goods will be available.

Saturday
Country music
Country music will be presented at Luthersburg Community Center Saturday. Doors and kitchen open at 6 p.m. with music by Bill DeLong and Friends, and Heather Woodel starts at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Brady Township Park and Recreation Board.

Family .22/shotgun shoot
West Decatur Sportsman's will host a family .22/shotgun shoot Saturday, with registration from noon until 1 p.m. and the event shoot at 1 p.m. For more information, call Mike at 342-1827.

Lenten sale
Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church Center, Osceola Mills, will have a Lenten sale of pierogies and haluski Saturday from 9 a.m. until sold out. Price is $7 each and no orders will be taken. For more information, call 339-7332.

Shoe bank
The West Branch Area Shoe Bank will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Morrisdale United Methodist Church, located on state Route 53 in Morrisdale. All children up to age 18 can receive new sneakers if they have a CHIP or Access card; children must be accompanied by an adult. Children up to 3 years old can receive new sneakers every three months, while children ages 4-18 can receive new sneakers every six months. There is also a large supply of gently used shoes and boots for everyone. In the event of inclement weather, the shoe bank will be canceled.

Soup and bread distribution
Free homemade soup and bread will be distributed Saturday at noon at God's Clearview Ministries, 1946 Pardee Road, Morrisdale (the Old Morris School). For more information, call 496-9847.

Soup/bake sale
Catholic Daughters of the Americas will have a soup and bake sale Saturday and Sunday immediately following Mass at Christ the King Parish Center, Houtzdale. Various kinds of soup and homemade baked goods will be available; containers will be provided.

Sunday
.22 Shoot
A .22 shoot will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Glen Richey Sportsman's Club. Those attending should bring their own shells.
