Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community.
All events are open to the public.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number.
The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center is exhibiting members' artwork at Clearfield Hospital on the first floor through March 15. This show features many themes and mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, pastels and oils.
Some of the artwork is for sale and a percentage of sold artwork is donated to the Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary.
Karen Neeper, SRAC member, is the organizer of the hospital show and assisted by the club's show committee. Membership applications for SRAC are available at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield.
Sherry Appleton is exhibiting her artwork at Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, through March 1. She is a member of Susquehanna River Art Center, a sponsor of this event. The artist's showcases give member artists an opportunity to exhibit their artwork for a month at the library. A percentage of any painting sold is donated to the library.

The March showcase will feature a sale of the late William Patton Brown's paintings.
An auction benefiting Houtzdale Fire Co. No. 1 will be held Friday at the firehall, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the auction taking place at 6 p.m.
There will be new and used items, groceries and much more. The kitchen will also be open.
Auctioneers are Col. Lou E. Einatre and Deb Einatre.
A Lenten fish dinner will be served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Columbia Fire Co., Osceola Mills. Prices are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children.
The menu includes a choice of fried or baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetable, stewed tomatoes, and a full salad bar and two soups for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available.

St. Severin's Church, Drifting, will serve a fish dinner every Friday during Lent from 4-6:30 p.m. at the social hall. Prices are $9 for adult and $6 for a small portion.
The menu includes baked or fried fish, parslied potatoes, vegetable, coleslaw or applesauce, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, roll, dessert and beverage. Eat-in or takeouts are available.
Call 345-6665 for takeouts. No dinners will be served on Good Friday.
A fish dinner will be served Friday from 3:30-7 p.m. at the Hyde Fire Co. social hall.
The menu includes baked or fried haddock with a choice of french fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, roll and fruit. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children. Takeouts are available.

The menu includes a choice of baked or fried fish, or chicken planks are also available, with potato, vegetable, stewed tomatoes and macaroni and cheese. The meal is served with soup and salad bar when eating in. Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. Takeouts are available.
Proceeds benefit the fire company.
Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268 will sponsor a benefit buffet dinner Saturday from 5-7:30 p.m. The cost is $10. A dance, featuring The Band Bandit, will play from 9 a.m. to midnight at a cost of $5 per person.
Proceeds go to Ken "Big Bird" Barrett, who is battling cancer. The Clearfield Chinklacamoose ABATE members are helping with this event.
A donation would be appreciated from children 16 and younger attending the dance. A 50/50 will be held and a small game of chance.
An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at Free and Accepted Masons Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515, located at Lingle and Coal streets, Osceola Mills. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children.
The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, juice and coffee.
Proceeds benefit the Masonic Children's Home in Elizabethtown.
Goshen Township Sportsman will sponsor a breakfast Saturday from 7-10 a.m. It includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice or coffee for $5.
There will be memberships and corn available for cardholders at this time.
Cooper Township Sportsmen will hold a breakfast Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the clubhouse. Prices are $7 for adults and $4 for children.
Meal includes eggs, sausage, ham, bacon, toast, coffee and juice. Corn will be available to members for $5 a bag, with a one-bag limit.
Proceeds benefit fish stocking and game feed.
Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386 will serve breakfast Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the post home.
The menu includes bacon and eggs, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.
Chicken and biscuit dinner
A chicken and biscuit dinner will be held Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Second St., Clearfield, in the Lee Parish House.
The dinner includes chicken and biscuits, green beans, applesauce, beverage and dessert. Prices are $6.50 for adults and $4.50 for children younger than 12; takeouts will also be available.
For tickets, call the church office at 765-9222. Tickets will also be available at the door, and delivery can be arranged for those unable to get to the church.
Free community meals
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at Fourth and Presqueisle streets, Philipsburg, will serve a free community lunch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The menu includes chili, hot dogs and cookies.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Greater Shawville Parish of the United Methodist Church will host a free community spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at the Goshen Township social hall on Knobs Road.
The dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, roll, salad, fruit cup and dessert.
The community is invited to attend and share in a meal and fellowship.
The Parish Youth Group has been learning about mission in February, and the youth, along with members of the church, will be serving the community with this dinner.
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from birth through 18 years can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. There will also be gloves, winter hats, scarves, and a selection of boots while supplies last.
Children must have their Access medical card and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

A spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Moshannon Community Center, located along state Route 144. Prices are $7 per ticket for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.
The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, a salad, dinner roll, dessert and hot/cold beverages.
Tickets will be available at the door and takeouts will also be available.
Proceeds benefit Mountain Top Activity Center.
Knights of Columbus will host a full breakfast Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the KC building, located at Sixth Street and Arnold Avenue, Clearfield.
Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.
A breakfast will be held Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785. The cost is $5.
A chicken barbecue will be held Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. at St. Michael Orthodox Church hall, Irvona.
The menu includes half chicken, baked beans, roll and dessert. The price is $8.
Susquehanna Community Grange is hosting a paddle party Sunday at 1 p.m. at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268.
Price is $3 for the first paddle, and there will be door prizes.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Roast beef dinner
Mahaffey Fire Department will hold a roast beef dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, coleslaw, dinner roll, dessert and a drink.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children's portion; takeouts are also available.
Glendale Sportsmen's Club will hold shotgun shoots Sunday at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse.
Price is $15 for 10 rounds, and the club will furnish the shells.
