Saturday, February 9, 2013
The American Cancer Society Volunteer Leadership Council of Clearfield County will meet Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the American Cancer Society office, located along Second Street, Clearfield. Members will discuss programs and services provided to cancer patients in Clearfield County.
From Sept. 1, 2011, through Aug. 31, 2012, 317 cancer patients received a total of 879 services. These patients received information, transportation assistance, Road to Recovery - a program where volunteer drivers transported cancer patients to and from treatment - free wigs, attended Look Good ... Feel Better sessions and eight patients stayed free at Hope Lodge for a total of 223 nights.
VLC members also discuss area fundraising events such as Relay For Life and Daffodil Days and their volunteer needs for the area. These are income events that help fund patient programs and services as well as research.
Volunteer Leadership Council members are community leaders who participate in projects to help further the mission of ACS. They help create and maintain a presence in the county so that ACS can continue to help people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back.
