Meals on Wheels recieves grant
Saturday, February 9, 2013
Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. recently received notification that it was successful in obtaining a competitive $2,000 grant from the Meals on Wheels Association of America. As one of the five Subaru "Share the Love" Event charitable partners, the Meals On Wheels Association of America awarded a total of $200,000 in "Share the Love" grants to local Meals On Wheels programs that partner with Subaru dealerships in the fight to end senior hunger.
Wilkinson's Subaru, Curwensville, teamed up with CCAAA's Meals on Wheels & More Program to spread some holiday cheer. It provided financial support to purchase Christmas cards for Meals on Wheels & More recipients and send to "Holiday Mail for Heroes." This local effort was part of the MOWAA's participation in the national Subaru of America Inc. "Share the Love" event.
"We are honored to be part of ‘Share the Love' for a fifth straight year," said MOWAA Interim CEO Larry J. Tomayko. "Subaru recognizes the importance of giving back to the communities it serves. Working together, MOWAA and Subaru are helping to provide more than just a meal; we're bringing warmth and compassion to so many hungry and homebound seniors who would otherwise go without."
The Subaru "Share the Love" Event ran from Nov. 21 to Jan. 2. Subaru donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during "Share the Love" to the customer's choice of one of five charities, including MOWAA. Over the past four years, proceeds from the Subaru "Share the Love" Event have provided funds to MOWAA to support its vision to end senior hunger by 2020.
CCAAA will use the grant funds to continue its quest of converting its Meals on Wheels & More delivery fleet to compressed natural gas fuel, a stable fuel source that is cost efficient, environmentally friendly and not subject to international influences. This will reduce meal delivery costs significantly, ensure the program can be sustained and strengthen the capacity to serve all who need meals.
CCAAA's Meals on Wheels and More program provides in-home, nutritious, midday meals to eligible consumers throughout Clearfield County. On average, more than 550 meals are delivered on a daily basis. Last year, the agency served more than 150,650 meals to more than 1,050 people throughout Clearfield County.
The MOWAA is the only national organization and network dedicated solely to ending senior hunger in America. It is the oldest and largest organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 states as well as the U.S. territories.
