Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.


Art show
A winter art show, sponsored by the Susquehanna River Art Center and Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, is being presented at the library through Feb. 2. The show is open to the public during regular library hours.
This show features many winter scenes in a variety of mediums, such as watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oil and mixed medium. There will also be other themes presented. Some of the artwork is for sale with a percentage of the sale price donated to the library. Anyone interested in purchasing artwork should contact the artist.

Ballroom dance
A ballroom dance will be held at the Clearfield YMCA Friday from 6-9 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person; those attending are asked to bring their own soft drinks and a contribution for the refreshment table.

Annual cookie sale
St. Francis Rosary and Altar Society will hold its annual cookie sale Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at St. Francis School, Clearfield. The price is $4 per dozen; bring your own containers. Use the back entrance by the parking lot.

An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held at Free and Accepted Masons Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515, located at Lingle and Coal streets, Osceola Mills, on Saturday from 7-10 a.m.
Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children, and proceeds benefit the Masonic Children's Home, Elizabethtown.

Christmas breakfast
Morris Township Fire Co. will hold a Christmas breakfast Sunday from 7 a.m. until noon at the recreation center on Deer Creek Road. Santa, Rudolph and Little Rudy will hand out treats from 10 a.m. until noon. Children younger than 12 will be entered for drawings.
The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries, coffee, juice and hot chocolate. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for those 6-12 and free for children younger than 5.

Christmas festival
Grampian Lions Club will sponsor its second annual children's Christmas festival Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Heritage Hall, Grampian. All local children are invited to attend this free event.
Special guests will be Santa and Mrs. Claus, Rudolph and Little Rudy, the Cat in the Hat and Hello Kitty. There will be activities including cookie decorating, Christmas crafts, holiday tattoos, games and nutritional snacks. There will also be a reading center where a variety of Christmas stories will be read by local book lovers, a free Chinese auction of animal banks and refreshments in the basement.

Christmas party
A children's Christmas party will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mahaffey firehall. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be attending to visit with children and hand out treats.

Country music event
Brady Township Park and Recreation Board will host country music at the Luthersburg Community Center Saturday. Doors and kitchen will open at 6 p.m., and the music begins at 7 p.m.

New Horizons Singles' Club will host a dance Saturday from 8-11 p.m. at DuBois Veterans of Foreign Wars James J. Patterson Post No. 813. Entertainment will be provided by the Moore Brothers.

The Coalport Christmas parade will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as Santa, Rudolph and Little Rudy will participate in the event that will form at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at 1:15 p.m. It will proceed to the firehall on Water Street, where members of Coalport Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 350, Veterans of Foreign Wars Richard L. Beers Post No. 7043 and Glendale Volunteer Fire Department will distribute treats to area children.
Any church, civic, community organizations wishing to be in the parade is asked to be near the lineup area.

Santa visit
Santa will be at the Ramey firehall Saturday. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the visit with Santa is from 1:20-2:30 p.m. All children 12 and younger are welcome to come visit Santa and have a slice of pizza.

Sneaker closet
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Second St., Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. There will also be mittens, winter hats and scarves.
Children must have their Access or CHIP card and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children must be present to receive sneakers. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.

Auction/chicken barbecue
An auction and chicken barbecue will be held at 583 West Bridge St., Westover, Sunday. The auction starts at 1 p.m. and the meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be frozen foods, dry goods, snacks and miscellaneous items available. Charlie Fisher will be the auctioneer. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children age 12 and younger and includes macaroni and cheese, vegetable, applesauce, dessert and drink.

Benefit dinner
There will be a benefit spaghetti dinner for William Bennett of Irvona RD Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Bigler Township municipal building, Madera.
The meal will include spaghetti, salad, roll, cake, coffee, tea and juice.
Prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-12 and free for children younger than 3.

Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will serve breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the post home. The cost is $5.

Breakfast with Santa
Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Karthaus firehall Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The breakfast includes eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast and juice, hot chocolate and coffee as beverages. Prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and younger.
Children will receive a gift from Santa and register to win a free gift. There will also be a Chinese auction. Proceeds benefit Karthaus Volunteer Fire Co.

Christmas dinner
A Christmas dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ramey firehall.
The menu includes roast turkey and stuffing, baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy and sides, and cake. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10. Takeouts will be available. Proceeds benefit Ramey Fire Co.

Christmas party
Hyde Fire Co. will hold a Christmas party for children Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Santa will arrive at 2:30 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Shooting Star Entertainment.

Evening of music
Osceola Mills Community Historical Foundation is hosting an evening of holiday music and refreshments.
The public is invited to gather at the lower level social room of the Osceola Mills Veterans of Foreign Wars Osceola Memorial Post No. 5020 Sunday at 6 p.m. to join the foundation choir accompanied by Jamie Rodger and her instrumental group in singing Christmas carols.
Following the carol singing free refreshments will be served.

Irvona Fire Co.'s Christmas parade will be held Sunday at 5 p.m., with lineup at 4:30 p.m. on Upper Rose Street. The parade will go down Rose Street to White Street then to Julia Street, ending at Irvona firehall.
Santa, Rudolph and Little Rudy will be on hand with treats for the children.
Churches, ball teams, bands, twirling groups or other organizations wishing to be in the parade are asked to be at the lineup area by 4:30 p.m.
Irvona Fire Co., Irvona Borough and Irvona Ambulance sponsor the treats.

Shotgun shoots
Glendale Sportsmen's Club will hold shotgun shoots Sunday at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2732 Black Elk Road, Irvona.
The cost is $15 for 10 rounds, and the club will furnish the shells.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
