Man arrested fleeing police
Thursday, December 6, 2012
YOUNG TOWNSHIP - A Reynoldsville man is in Jefferson County Jail after he led state police on a chase and struck two of their vehicles.
Douglas Bryan Oharah was arrested after a police pursuit that began on U.S. Route 119 in Young Township, Jefferson County, on Tuesday. Oharah was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Gregory Bazylak, who established bail at $100,000 cash. He remains in Jefferson County Jail pending a preliminary hearing.
According to the state police at Punxsutawney, a trooper attempted to stop Oharah for a traffic violation on U.S. 119 approximately one mile south of Punxsutawney. Oharah refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. He traveled through Punxsutawney, causing motorists to take evasive action to avoid being struck. He continued onto state Route 310, and as he approached the village of Anita, his vehicle struck two state police vehicles. All three vehicles were disabled.
Oharah has been charged with 12 felony counts of aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of simple assault, three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and numerous summary traffic violations.
