P-O board reorganizes
Wednesday, December 5, 2012
By Tyler Kolesar Staff Writer
PHILIPSBURG - The Philipsburg-Osceola School Board held a brief reorganization meeting last evening, with the president and vice president roles staying the same. During the nominations process, board member Jim Verbeck made a motion to have Rebecca Timchak as president, and was seconded by Todd Jeffries.
Elizabeth Whitehead then made the motion to have Dana Droll as president, and board member Nancy Lamb seconded her request. Board members then had to choose between Timchak and Droll, with Timchak winning by a 6-1 vote. During the votes, Droll stated that while she was flattered by the nomination, she didn't think she could put forth the time and effort needed as president. Voting for Timchak was herself, Verbeck, Jeffries, Lamb, Droll and Mary Ellen Holden. Whitehead cast the lone vote for Droll. Board members Linda Bush and Susan McGee were absent.
For vice president, Jeffries made the motion to nominate Bush, and was seconded by Holden.
Verbeck then made a motion to nominate Holden, who immediately declined the offer. Bush was then the lone nomination, to which she was unanimously accepted.
The board then decided to have Whitehead as the Legislative and PSBA Liaison for the upcoming year, while Jeffries was appointed as the district representative for the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center for a three-year term. Verbeck will be the alternate for the CCCTC position.
Meeting dates for 2013 were also chosen. Committee meetings will be taking place on the second Tuesday of the month, with the exception of July, November and December (no committee meetings).
Voting meetings will stay as the fourth Monday of the month, with the 2013 reorganization meeting slated for Dec. 3.
Meetings will be held at Philipsburg Elementary.
