Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center and Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, are sponsoring a SRAC showcase at the library through Dec. 1 during the library's operating hours. Gourd artwork is displayed by artist Martha Bloom. She grows, dries, arranges and paints her gourds.
Karen Neeper is displaying her paintings of wildlife, landscapes, and portraits among other subjects. Artwork by Dottie Evans and her students, Audrey Moore, Marilyn Selfridge, Katy Swatz, Corrine Rubbe, Nancy Beauseigneur, Kathy Mapes and Mary Ann Reilly are displayed. The paintings include poinsettias, daisies, houses painting on wood, and other subjects.
The clothing closet at the Free Methodist Church, 520 Turnpike Ave., Clearfield, will be closed during the winter months. For assistance during this time, call 765-6831 or 765-3065.
Craft show/flea market
A craft show/flea market will be held Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Clearfield. There will be vendors and lunch items available.
Mahaffey Fire Department is holding an auction Saturday. Kitchen and doors open at 5 p.m. and the auction starts at 6 p.m. Auctioneer is Keith Byers. For more information, call 277-6639.
Clearfield International Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 812 Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual bake sale, Chinese auction, bar games, hoagie and soup sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served at Free and Accepted Masons Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515, located at Lingle and Coal streets, Osceola Mills, Saturday from 7-10 a.m. Proceeds benefit Mason Michael Patterson, who has severe GERD among other medical complications requiring a feeding tube to be replaced every three months. He is 9 months old and has had four surgeries. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children.
Wallaceton United Methodist Church will host a free Thanksgiving dinner Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at the church.
Holiday vendor event
St. Barbara's Church, Houtzdale, will hold a holiday vendor event Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
There will be vendors, Polish food, a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.
Houtzdale Community Partnership Association is hosting a paddle party Saturday at the Houtzdale firehall. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the party at 6 p.m. There will be many vendors. Those attending should bring quarters for chances to win prizes. Proceeds benefit Houtzdale Christmas Downtown and Houtzdale Days 2013.
The 11th annual Clearfield Alliance Christian School PTO auction will be held Saturday, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the auction at 10 a.m. Some items to be auctioned include a boy's bike, 30-minute airplane ride, hand-crafted items, theme baskets, gift certificates, sports, museum and zoo tickets, Pampered Chef, 31 and Avon items, autographed memorabilia, framed prints, outdoor and hunting items, CD player, plus much more. The seminar Surviving the Holidays will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 590 Lincoln Drive, DuBois. This is for those experiencing grief during the holidays.

The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. They must have their Access or CHIP cards, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be present to receive sneakers. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.
West Branch United Methodist Youth Group will host a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Palestine United Methodist Church, located along Schoonover Road, Morrisdale. Tickets are available at the door.
The Knights of Columbus, Clearfield, will host a full breakfast Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the building, located at Sixth Street and Arnold Avenue. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.
Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will serve breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the post home. The cost is $5.
A dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Columbia firehall in Osceola Mills. It will feature stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, dessert, and a full salad bar for eat-in only. Takeouts are available.

West Decatur Sportsmen's Club will hold a .22/Flintock Muzzleloader shoot Sunday at noon, with registration at 11 a.m. Bring your own powder and balls. For more information, call Mike at 342-1827.
Paddle party/quarter auction
A paddle party/quarter auction will be held Sunday at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m., at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 268 to benefit the Susquehanna Community Grange. Door prizes will be given from all vendors and participants are asked to bring their own quarters. For more information, call Lisa at 592-7720.
West Branch Ministerium Thanksgiving services will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Karthaus, with Pastor Clifford Johnson speaking.
Glendale Sportsmen's Club will hold a shotgun shoot Sunday at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2732 Black Elk Road, Irvona. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds, and the club will supply the shells.
Glen Richey Sportsmen's Club will host a turkey shoot Sunday at 2 p.m. Shells for 12-gauge shotguns will be provided, and 10 turkeys will be given away.
Cooper Township Sportsmen's Club's final turkey shoot will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the club's range in Winburne. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds, and proceeds benefit fish stocking and game feed.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
