Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Friday
Fish dinner
A fish dinner will be served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Columbia firehall, Osceola Mills.
Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for children. The meal includes a choice of fried or baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetable, stewed tomatoes, and a full salad bar and two soups for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available. Call 339-5046 for deliveries.

Saturday
Benefit dance
A benefit dance will be held Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at Curwensville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 238. Music will be provided by Chaos. Tickets are $10 each and are available at Adam's Golden Grill, Curwensville Moose or by calling 236-1339. Proceeds benefit the "Family House," in memory of Sean McDonald. Any donation would be appreciated.

Christmas bazaar
The annual Christmas bazaar at East Ridge-Harmony United Methodist Church, located along Ridge Road near Westover, will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be vegetable and chicken noodle soups available for purchase by the quart, homemade noodles, candies and pies. Also, there will be a bake sale, crafts, a flea table, lunch for eat-in or takeout, and a basket auction, with the winners announced at 2 p.m.

Church bazaar
Palestine United Methodist Church will hold a bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
There will be baked items for sale, lunch and sandwiches will be served.

Comedy Palooza
Comedy Palooza, hosted by Clearfield YMCA, will be held Saturday at 8 p.m. at St. Charles Café, Clearfield, to benefit the YMCA's fall programs; doors open at 7 p.m. There will be three professional comedians performing, and hors d'ouvres and beverages will be available. Ticket price is $25 per person, and only advance tickets are available at the YMCA or by calling 765-5521.

Indoor bake/yard sale
St. John's Byzantine Church, Hawk Run, will hold an indoor bake and yard sale at the church Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be available.

Pancake breakfast
A pancake and sausage breakfast will be served Saturday from 6-10 a.m. at Grampian Church of God. There will also be a bake sale. Proceeds benefit the church's Jamaican mission fund.

Pork dinner
A pork and sauerkraut dinner will be served at Osceola Mills United Methodist Church Saturday from 4:30-6 p.m. Prices are $8 for adults and $3 for children.

Sneaker Closet
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. They must have their Access or CHIP cards, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be present to receive sneakers. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222. Spaghetti dinners
Curwensville Area Lutheran Ministry will host a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Curwensville. Meals may be eaten in or taken out. The cost is $6 per person. Tickets are available from church members and will be sold at the door. Proceeds benefit Curwensville Ministerium's fuel fund, which assists with heating homes of less fortunate families living in Curwensville Area School District.

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday from 3-7 p.m. at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport. The meal includes spaghetti with meatballs, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Pre-orders are $6 and the cost is $8 at the door. To pre-order, call Nick Bloom at 577-8714 or Trey English at 290-9467. Proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Program as part of Bloom and English's senior project.

Sunday
Breakfasts
Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Auxiliary Fire Co., located on Jury Road, will hold a breakfast buffet Sunday from 8-11 a.m. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. The menu includes scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, bacon, sausage, home fries, french toast, pancakes, white or wheat bread, fresh fruit and a drink.

Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will hold breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the post home. The cost is $5.

Christmas bingo
The annual Christmas bingo fundraiser to benefit Caring and Sharing for Kids is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Rockton firehall. Doors open at 1 p.m. The cost is $10 for 20 regular games.
There will also be specials and raffles with additional tickets for these sold the day of the event. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be available. Caring and Sharing for Kids helps local ill, injured and disabled children.

Open house
Clearfield Hospital Cottage Gift Shop will hold its annual open house Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. A discount will be given on all items purchased at the open house, except candy, cards and magazines. Refreshments will be served. For the open house, The Cottage is transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Every inch displays handmade wreaths, Christmas decorations, and there are volunteers to help visitors select the right gift. The Cottage is under the direction of Donna Shaw. Proceeds from the sale benefit Clearfield Hospital to enhance health care to its patients. The annual open house gives hospital staff, as well as the general public, the opportunity to preview The Cottage's gift collection and begin their Christmas shopping.

Paddle party/quarter auction
A paddle party/quarter auction will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Osceola Mills Fire Co., with doors opening at 3 p.m. Food will be available and the kitchen will be open. The first paddle is $3, each additional paddle is $1 and the fireman's special is $6, which is one paddle and the meal, including ham potpie and a roll. Vendors include Cookie Lee, Holiday House Primitives, CB Gifts, Avon, Candy Shop, Elaine's Beauty Bags, Unlimited Blessings, Wood Crafters and more. Those attending should bring their own quarters. For more information, call 592-7720. Proceeds benefit the fire company.

Purse games
Vera Bradley purse games will be held Sunday at the Knights of Columbus building, located at Sixth Street and Arnold Avenue, Clearfield. Doors open at 1 p.m. and games start at 2 p.m. The cost is $25 at the door. Light refreshments will be provided. or advance tickets, which are $20, call 761-0412.

Roast beef dinner
A roast beef dinner will be served Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Glen Hope firehall. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, coleslaw or applesauce, roll, drink and dessert. Dine-in or takeouts are available.

Shotgun shoot
Due to rain, the shotgun shoot, originally scheduled for Oct. 28, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Glen Richey Sportsmen's Club. Meat will be given as prizes.

Turkey shoot
Cooper Township Sportsmen's Club will hold a turkey shoot Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sportsman's range in Winburne. Ten rounds will cost $15, and proceeds benefit the Game Feed and Fish Stocking Program.

A turkey shoot will be held Sunday at noon at West Decatur Sportsmen's Club. Registration starts at 11 a.m., and only 12-guage shotguns are allowed. The cost is $2 per shot and shells will be supplied. The regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
