Four Clearfield harriers qualify for state tournament Monday, October 29, 2012 RIDGWAY - The Clearfield boys and girls cross country teams, along with Curwensville's Rebecca Johnson competed at the District 9 Championships Saturday at Ridgway's Grandinetti Elementary School. Lady Bison's Claire Mikesell, Courtney Smith and Kristi Fox, along with Bison Jonathan Sponsler all qualified for Saturday's PIAA Meet at Hershey. Mikesell was fourth in the girls class AA race, recording a time of 20:58.8. Smith (21:08.2) and Fox (21:11.8) were sixth and seventh, respectively. St. Marys' Adair Gennocro was the girls top finisher with a time of 19:04.70. Punxsutawney won the team title with Clearfield placing second. Sponsler was eighth in the boys race with a time of 18:05.70. Bradford's Aziz Yousif took the top spot with a 16:45.10. Punxsutawney was also the boys team champion, while Clearfield finished fourth. Johnson placed 18th in the girls class A race, running the course in a time of 22:00.9. Elk County Catholic, which won the team title, had the top finisher in Kennedy Weisner, who recorded a time of 18:23. The PIAA Championships begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
