Lake authority looks to improve recreation area
Thursday, October 11, 2012
By Dianne Byers Staff Writer
Members of Curwensville Lake Authority looked ahead at yesterday's meeting and said in the coming months they would be looking at the feasibility of adding items to improve Curwensville Lake Recreation Area including a few cabins for the public to rent.
Structures for rent located on the lake's property were an often-made request from members of the public during public meetings and interviews with the public when the authority was gathering information for the lake property's master site plan.
Jim Kling, authority chairman, said in hopes of granting the public's request during the off season, the authority would be exploring the possibility of funding and the feasibility of the project and the best location for two to three small cabins.
The authority said yesterday they would also be looking at rates for the 2013 season and asked Shane Kelly, operations manager, to gather information on costs for water, electricity and wastewater disposal from the 2012 season so it can determine whether increases cost the authority money. Kling told the board, in the coming months, they would be studying those numbers.
In other business, the authority:
• said it is still looking for volunteers willing to serve on a support group for the lake. Those interested should contact the lake's office at 236-2320.
• held an executive session for personnel matters. Kling said votes on the matters discussed yesterday would be taken during a future meeting.
• reviewed with Kelly a list of projects to be completed before the opening of the 2013 season.
• said it is applying to Visit Clearfield County for a matching grant to place a billboard, in a location to be announced, advertising the lake. The authority will request $3,600 in an application due Friday.
• thanked all who made donations to last weekend's Octoberfest for campground patrons. Kelly said the event was a great success and many sites at the campground are already booked for the 2013 Octoberfest.
The authority's next meeting is Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Clearfield County Conservation District's conference room located at 511 Spruce St., Clearfield.
