2012 Chili Bowl most successful yet Saturday, September 22, 2012 By Wendy Lynn Brion Staff Writer "It was our best Chili Bowl ever." Those were the words of Judy Hixon, one of the coordinators of the Clearfield Hospital Hospice Chili Bowl, the annual fundraiser held by hospice to raise funds in order to help the terminally ill and their families. Hixon said the event brought in more money than the 2011 Chili Bowl. This year's gross total is $29,575.35. The total money raised from the Humanitarian Jars is $6,860.54. She added that people really enjoyed themselves this year and many families helped by hospice came to show their support. Many past contestants also took part in the chili cook-off, and several new competitors made a splash, with a couple winning awards as well. Hixon noted that it is a family-oriented event with games for children, music, raffles and much more going on, all to benefit hospice. The awards are broken down into the following categories: church, restaurant, open division, spirit, decorating, people's choice and humanitarian, for the group raising the most money for hospice.
