Area cross country teams in action
ALTOONA - The West Branch, Purchase Line and Philipsburg-Osceola cross country teams participated in the Altoona Mountain Lion Invitational on Saturday.
The Warriors finished in 16th place, while the Dragons earned a 19th-place finish and the Mounties placed 22nd in the event.
West Branch's Abe Albright came in 28th in the event, finishing in 18:12.95. Dan Learn was the top finisher for the Dragons in 71st place at 19:43.17. Kaleb Bennett (20:55.09) was the leader for the Mounties in 114th place.
Jordan Jackson of Wellsboro won the boys competition in 16:43.08.
On the girls side of action, the Lady Warriors placed 16th, while the Lady Mounties finished 19th. The Purchase Line girls ran for time only.
Lauren Godissart (22:40.03) finished in 48th place to lead the Lady Warriors. Taylor Guelich was 107th with a time of 25:21.42 as the top finisher for the Lady Mounties. Purchase Line's Melanie Hilliard had a 34th-place finish. Her time of 22:07.87 led all area girls.
St. Marys' Adair Gennocro was first in the girls event with a time of 18:35.55.
Altoona won the boys competition with 67 points, while Westmont Hilltop came in second place with 147 points. Oakland Catholic won the girls side with 57 points, with Westmont Hilltop earning second place with 103 points.
Philipsburg-Osceola and West Branch will be back in action on Tuesday. P-O travels to Penns Valley with Tyrone, while West Branch visits Southern Fulton. Purchase Line travels to Penns Manor on Wednesday.
