Lady Tide place second at Manfredo Tournament

DUBOIS - The Curwensville girls soccer team placed second in the Manfredo Tournament on Saturday, losing a heartbreaker to host DuBois Central Catholic in shootout.
The game was tied at 2-2 after regulation and a 10-minute overtime before the Lady Cardinals won the penalty kick round, 4-2.
"It was tough to lose in a shootout," Curwensville head coach Gary Thorp said. "But the girls did a good job."
Tiara Bumbarger and Mackenzie Winebold each scored second-half goals for the Tide to send the game into overtime after DCC had taken a 2-0 advantage into the half.
Curwensville won both its pool games, shutting out Smethport, 4-0, and downing Redbank Valley, 5-2.
The Lady Tide also fell behind the Lady Bulldogs, 2-0, before netting the next five goals.
Kelsey Greslick, Bumbarger, Alicia Gaul, Chantel Tubbs and Winebold all scored against Redbank.
In the opener against the Lady Hubbers, Curwensville tallied four first-half goals. Bumbarger had two of them, while Winebold and Abby Guarino notched the other two. Cheyenne Geisler added two assists for the Lady Tide.
DuBois Central Catholic's Maddie Myers, who scored the second goal in regulation against the Lady Tide and the clinching goal in shootout, was named the tournament's offensive MVP.
Curwensville's Heather Thorp was selected as the defensive MVP.
The Lady Tide are back in action Wednesday at Punxsutawney.
