Memorial service to honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001
Saturday, September 08, 2012
There will be a short memorial service coordinated by Marven Smith on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Clearfield County Courthouse square to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
The American Legion Honor Guard program will be present.
The Clearfield County memorial flag will be removed from inside the courthouse and will be raised with the American flag and placed at half-staff until sundown. A memorial wreath will be placed at the base of the memorial stone that was installed last year. Opening and closing prayer will be offered in the morning by Pastor Robert Way, who was a member of the Flight 93 Memorial Task Force in Shanksville. He is currently a pastor at St. John Lutheran Church.
Those involved in the program include the Clearfield Legion Honor Guard, under the direction of Merlin Hess; Steve Hindman, designer of the Clearfield County Memorial Flag; Michele Fannin, president of the woman's club who commissioned the flag; Brenda Weber, who will perform the national anthem; Commissioner Mark B. McCracken; and Clearfield Borough Mayor Jim Schell.
Todd Kling, Clearfield volunteer fire chief; Vincent McGinnis, Clearfield Borough police chief; and Terry Wigfield, Clearfield EMS, will represent the firefighters and police who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.
