Murder-suicide in Jefferson Co. investigated Tuesday, September 04, 2012 OLIVER TOWNSHIP - Pennsylvania State Police at Punxsutawney are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred over the weekend on an abandoned rail bed near East Branch Road in Oliver Township, Jefferson County. The Troop C Major Case Investigation Team responded after individuals riding all-terrain vehicles discovered the bodies of Ricky L. Miller and Kathryn L. Divins inside Miller's vehicle Saturday afternoon. After an initial investigation, it was determined Miller and Divins had been involved in a long-term relationship and lived together. They were in the area for the holiday weekend and at some point, believed to be during the evening hours on Friday, went to the location where they were discovered. Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder pronounced Miller and Divins dead at the scene. Both individuals died of single gunshot wounds. Oliver Township Fire Department assisted at the scene. ****** BRADY TOWNSHIP - Pennsylvania State Police at DuBois report one person is dead following a single-vehicle accident on Ridge Road in Brady Township at 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Gregory Bickel of Cortland, Ohio, was traveling west on Ridge Road when he negotiated a left curve with his all-terrain vehicle and traveled off of the north side of the roadway and into a ditch/culvert where his ATV struck a tree. Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder pronounced Bickel dead at the scene. His passenger, Jeffrey Bickel of Warren, Ohio, suffered major injuries. Trooper James Price, Brady Township Fire Department, Brady Township Ambulance and DuBois Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene. ***** An 87-year old Akron Ohio woman died as a result of her injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 80 on Aug. 18. Vera Franzman was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Margaret McClellan, 84, of Akron Ohio who apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled off the roadway, struck the guiderail and spun around before coming to a rest facing west, blocking the eastbound lane. Both occupants were flown to Altoona Regional Hospital for treatment. McClellan reportedly suffered moderate injuries in the accident.
