Knights Victory Race set for September 29th
Saturday, September 01, 2012
AMESVILLE - The Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation is deep in preparations for its second annual Knight's Victory Race ... Fun in the Mud 5K (3.1 miles) race to be held Sept. 29.
It is a race with 10 obstacles, inspired by the Spartan and Tough Mudder races. The competitive heat begins at 10 a.m. followed by the non-competitive heat at 11 a.m. at Muddy Run Raceway, Smokerun. There will be cash prizes for overall male and female winners, and a knighting ceremony by an honored guest.
Also, prizes for male and female winners will be awarded in each age group. Other prizes will be available to competitors for costumes and a prize for overall best spirit. Participants are advised to arrive 30 minutes early for registration, which may be done online; by printing the required registration and waiver forms found on www.knightsvictoryrace.com ; or by calling Laura Mihalko at 378-7683 extension 3137.
Participants can do the race at their own pace and do not have to be an athlete to complete the course. For those who would prefer to walk, you may skip all of the obstacles and not get wet. Some of the obstacles will include hay, logs, mud and water.
All money raised benefits the Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization benefiting Moshannon Valley School District.
The non-refundable early entry fee is $35 for competitive or $30 for non-competitive. Same-day registration is $40 for competitive and $35 for non-competitive. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed to receive a shirt. Students and military will receive a $5 discount the day of the race. Make-A-Wish Foundation will also benefit from the $3 parking fees. Spectators can watch for free.
Participants are reminded that this is a t race for team building and personal empowerment. They are encouraged to try it if they are considering the Seven Springs November Mud on the Mountain or the Tough Mudder in Pittsburgh in 2013.
This year the race has added a disc jockey's tent, sponsored by Kitko Wood Products, Glen Hope; an after the race refreshment tent, sponsored by Houtzdale Shop N' Save, and a tent for changing clothes is available if necessary. Christoff Mitchell Petroleum and Pepsi will supply bottled water for the participants.
At a recent meeting it was noted Nittany Racing Club, State College, will be timing the competitive heat; Best Insurance & Financial Group Inc. has been contacted for insurance.
This year the KVR Committee announces South Hills School of Business & Technology, PSU-DuBois and members of Biggest Losers, State College, are endorsing the KVR and will be sending people to see how muddy they can get. Teams will be timed as individuals this year, but can come in costume as a team to win prizes.
The foundation also announces Jon Vickers-Jones, professional storyteller, artist and creativity instructor with Castle Tales of State College, will be attending. Stephanie Errigo Photography will also be on hand to take photographs, which can be purchased to share with family and friends.
MVCEF believes by building relationships, everyone within a community can benefit. The KVR provides an extra venue for churches, schools, community organizations to promote their wares. Vendors may go to the website, contact Cathy Duttry at 378-7582 or Debbie Kruise at 378-5514 for vendor information. Also, it could be an opportunity to earn extra credit hours by volunteering.
