PennDOT places truck speed display sign Saturday, September 01, 2012
PENFIELD - Truck traffic on state Route 153 northbound (Sullivan Hill Road) in Huston Township will be reminded of one of the most common types of aggressive driving behavior: speeding. The state Department of Transportation recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign showing a 20 mph speed limit for trucks of more than 21,000 pounds gross weight traveling on SR 153 just south of Penfield. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The speed limit for vehicles less than 21,000 pounds gross weight in this area is 55 mph. The speed display sign will remain on location for up to four weeks. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.
