Mid-State Airport considers upcoming events Wednesday, August 08, 2012 By Annie Lynn Staff Writer PHILIPSBURG - The Mid-State Regional Airport Authority heard last night from Carl Striedieck who asked about using the airport during the Labor Day weekend for a winch launched flying event, with the possibility of having more events in the future. Authority Chairman, Brian Bailey, noted Striedieck would need to get an operations plan approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, along with safety procedure approval. Scott Panasiti, organizer of the Cruise-in slated for Aug. 18, along with a fly-in event, asked to lay out the areas for the cruise-in on Aug. 17. He also informed the board that walkie-talkies would be used to keep control of all activities. Mary Ann Williams, public relations coordinator, noted various events to be held at the Fly-in, saying the Clearfield and State College Experimental Aircraft Association will have several pilots providing rides for children; Harpster's Canopy and Tarps will donate a food court canopy and the Veteran's ceremony canopy; there will be a STAT MedEvac helicopter on site, as well the Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services and Hope Fire Company. Both the Cruise-in and Fly-in events will begin with an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from at 8-11:30 a.m. Food and refreshments will be available from noon until 4 p.m. A flag ceremony honoring all veterans will be held at 11 a.m., as well as a memorial plaque presentation to honor Wink Richmond from Philipsburg, a WWII veteran and Prisoner of War. Special attractions will include a C-123 Viet Nam transport plane and two WWII trainer planes. Don Branstetter revisited the matter of a card reader and fuel provision for the airport. There was a discussion about the matter, and the board entertained several suggestions. The treasurer's report noted there is a balance of $30,116.11. The next regular meeting will be Sept. 4 at the airport at 6:30 p.m.
