Coalport reviews condition of baseball field Tuesday, August 07, 2012 By Tyler Kolesar Staff Writer COALPORT - A wide array of topics was discussed at last night's Coalport Borough Council meeting. Mark Gobert of the Coalport Baseball Association said the baseball field is currently in good shape, and no field troubles occurred during the season other than occasional flooding due to weather. Gobert said three teams used the field, including a Little League team, a Minor League team, and a T-ball team. However, vandalism has occurred at the field, especially the concession stand. Gobert also said a current high school senior would like to work on the field for his senior project, and suggested replacing the dugouts. President Joe Nevling and other council members agreed to not tear down the dugouts just yet, as they may still need them for next year. But if funding is found, then it could be a viable option. Vice President Jack Rupp reported to council that the starter on their white truck had broken and was replaced on the day of the meeting. He also stated a new body is needed for the truck. When looking into pricing, Rupp said there is one available for $1,100. A discussion was then held on whether or not to purchase another used truck, or to just replace the body on the current truck. Council agreed a new body would be their best bet, and Rupp will look into the matter further. Nevling said someone on the Beccaria-Coalport-Irvona Municipal Authority approached him about work being done on Mill Street. After BCIMA is done with their work, they will repave the disrupted part of the street. Nevling asked if they would like to have the rest of the street paved as well, since all of the equipment would be there to do so. The price to finish the road is estimated at $7,000. Nevling said the kicker of the situation is that for an entire year, they are allotted around $15,000 in liquid fuels funding. Council member Joe Adam said he would love to see the road paved, however he does not like the idea that it would use up roughly half of their yearly funding. Council member Jon Gallaher agreed, saying it's a terrific idea but can't see the borough paying for it. Rupp asked if they could talk with BCIMA to see if they would accept payments in increments rather than the lump sum of approximately $7,000. A motion was then passed to talk with BCIMA to see if they could pay it off over a 12-24 month period. The next regular council meeting will take place on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the borough building. This meeting will take place one week later than normal due to Labor Day.
