Eight named to PSBCA All-State softball team

The 2012 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association has announced its all-star team.
A total of eight Progressland players were selected including an area-high five Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mounties.
P-O's Aisha Goss made the Class AA first team in the outfield, while pitcher Kate Burge, catcher Carly Gonder and first baseman Makenzie Burge got the nod on the second team. Shortstop Abby Showers is an honorable mention.
Curwensville also has a first-teamer as third baseman Molly Demchak has been selected for Class A. West Branch's Leann Bell is an honorable mention selection in Class A.
Clearfield outfielder B.J. Bowman is the lone area player on the Class AAA team, making it as a second-team designated hitter.
Goss hit .359 with two home runs and 19 RBIs to go with 18 runs scored.
Kate Burge finished the season with a 19-5 record and a 1.50 ERA. She struck out 179 batters and walked just 44 while tossing seven shutouts. A 2011 honorable mention, Burge hit .368 with two homers, 21 runs scored and 22 RBIs.
Also a 2011 honorable mention, Gonder batted .352 while hitting eight doubles, two triples and 25 runs scored.
Mackenzie Burge swatted a pair of home runs, while hitting an even .400. She scored 25 runs, knocked in 20 and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage at first.
Demchak hit .443 and slugged .607 for the Lady Tide. She smacked two homers and had 19 RBIs.
Bowman clubbed an area-best six home runs and belted eight doubles while hitting for a .419 average. She batted .462 for her career and blasted 18 long balls.
