Mid-State Airport announces upcoming events, activities Thursday, July 26, 2012 By TerryWhetstone Staff Writer BLACK MOSHANNON - There are two events coming up at Mid-State Regional Airport with the first happening this weekend. There will be two local trail runs sponsored by CNB Bank of Philipsburg and the Avondale Hotel in Winburne. One trail run is 30 miles long and currently people have registered from several different states including Florida, Michigan and Virginia. The other trail run is 12-miles long and there is also a one-mile blueberry trail hike from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for younger people to enjoy or any non-runners. (Blueberries are in season, so bring a bucket.) All runners and volunteers will receive a T-shirt as well. The second event is scheduled for Aug. 18 and it's the annual fly-in/cruise in which includes breakfast and lunch. The day will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage meal with a $6 donation. The events get underway at 9 a.m. There will be Young Eagle plane rides for children between the ages of 8 and 18, compliments of the Clearfield and State College Experimental Aircraft Association pilots, who donate their time and money to provide free rides for children to encourage the next generation of pilots. The following planes will be on hand for visitors to check out: a C-123 Vietnam era transport plane and two World War II trainer planes. The Penn State Soaring club will also be on hand. Everyone is welcome to attend, including vintage, private and experimental aircraft, ultralights and helicopters as well as vintage automobiles, street rods, sports cars, custom cars, motorcycles and any and all cool cruisers. Lunch will include: steak sandwiches, sauerkraut and hot dogs, cheeseburgers, homemade tea and ice cream. The Philipsburg Kiwanis Club is serving the ice cream. For more information call 342-6296.
