Morris Twp. authority accepts main line extension
Friday, July 20, 2012
By Tyler Kolesar Staff Writer
ALLPORT - Several topics were discussed at last night's Municipal Authority of the Township of Morris meeting.
Residents Corey Bloom and Tim Kephart were on hand to propose a main line extension to be installed as a lateral, which would extend over both of their properties. The duo had already been working with an engineer and brought in their plans to show the board.
Many questions were raised , including why an 8-inch lateral is being used.
While the board agreed an 8-inch lateral would be more than enough for the two properties, they said this would be sufficient should both men sell their properties in the future and the new owners decide to subdivide the land.
After much discussion, the board decided to accept the extension along with other various stipulations.
Board member John Ames questioned Chairman Vic Couturiaux about a resident's claim that he paid $4,500 for a new pump, but received a used one instead.
Ames said the man paid for a new pump, and he should have received a new pump, calling it "ethically wrong" to put in the used pump.
After a lengthy debate, Couturiaux said MATTOM maintains the pumps and it doesn't make a difference whether or not the pumps are new or used.
Couturiaux said if the pump would go bad, a new one would be installed.
The board also approved a motion to pay 50 percent of the deductible from Ed Southard's overflow into his home, provided the pipes are checked and with proof the deductible is at $1,000.
For July, there were seven delinquent bills. Couturiaux also reported problems with four different pumps during the last month.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the MATTOM office.
