100-mile yard sale slated for this weekend Wednesday, July 18, 2012 By Annie Lynn Staff Writer KARTHAUS - It's coming soon. Are you looking for a day or two of fun with friends? Do you need more stuff? Would you like to meet up with old friends or make some new ones? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the annual Quehanna Industrial Development Corporation's 100 miles of yard sales is for you. The event this year is slated for Friday and Saturday and promises to be the best yet. Beginning at Shawville, sale sites can be found all the way to Karthaus and beyond as far north as Benezette. Don't forget to take some side roads into such places as Goshen, LeContes Mills and Keewaydin, where you will find some great bargains. Watch for signs and don't be afraid to meander off the beaten path. All roads lead to someplace where there just might be a yard sale with exactly what you are looking for. The sales always provide plenty of clothing, toys and furniture for kids. You will also find clothes, knick-knacks, tools, furniture, books, personal care items and more for adults. The Goshen and LeContes Mills fire companies offer food, hot and cold beverages and rest rooms. Other sale sites often have such things as hot dogs, sloppy joes, baked goods and cold drinks. The QIDC spot at Big M's garage in Karthaus at the intersection of state Route 879 and the Quehanna Highway always has lots of ham and bean soup cooking, along with other food offerings. There, too, you can buy 50/50 chances and other raffle tickets, t-shirts and QIDC memberships. The QIDC encourages all yard sale shoppers to support the volunteer and non-profit organizations along the sale route. They also ask that all shoppers drive carefully and treat others with respect.
