Deadline nears for fair photo contest Tuesday, July 10, 2012 With its beautiful farmland, the scenic river running through downtown Clearfield and unusual sites such as Bilger's Rocks, the Clearfield area provides plenty of opportunity for photographers. Once again at the Clearfield County Fair's Progress booth, the newspaper will stage a photo contest. "Scenes from Progressland" was such a big hit with fairgoers and amateur photographers in 2009 and 2010 that the newspaper has decided to return to the theme this year. The prize structure for 2012 - with a professional judges' panel choosing a first- and second-place winner - will be $100 and $50, respectively. Fairgoers will also have the chance to vote for first- and second-place winners with the People's Choice Award. Those winners will also be awarded $100 and $50. The Clearfield County Fair runs from July 30 to Aug. 4. Prizes will be awarded at the end of fair week. Guidelines for submissions are as follows: • Include your name, phone number and address, and where and when the photo was taken. There is no age limit. Only one entry per person will be accepted. • Photos can be color or black and white and the print must be 8 x 10 or larger. • Only photos of scenery and wildlife within The Progress coverage area will be accepted. • Professional photographers, and Progress employees and their family members are excluded from entering. Photos will not be returned. Send photos to Progress Fair Booth Display, c/o Jill Ogden, Newsroom, P.O. Box 291, Clearfield, PA 16830. Or they can be dropped off at The Progress newsroom, 206 E. Locust St., Clearfield, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The deadline for submissions is Monday.
