Curry Run bridge work continues
Monday, July 09, 2012
This week will bring traffic impacts as work to replace a structurally deficient bridge about a mile south of the village of Curry Run continues.
The bridge spans Haslett Run on state Route 219 in Greenwood Township. Replacing the bridge with a new composite beam structure will continue to shorten the state Department of Transportation's list of structurally deficient bridges in Clearfield County. The new bridge will provide drivers with smoother, safer and more efficient travel across a modern structure.
Crews will be working to finish the temporary roadway that will move vehicles around the bridge construction. Traffic impacts will be minimal today and Tuesday. On Wednesday, drivers will encounter flaggers in the roadway during daylight hours. Flaggers will enforce an alternating traffic pattern and motorists may experience short travel delays.
Once work on the temporary roadway is complete, traffic will be switched over and the temporary road will be used until the new bridge is finished in early November.
Overall work on this replacement project includes construction of the new bridge and approaches, roadway paving, drainage improvements, and guide rail updates. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
The Haslett Run Bridge was built in 1925, is 40 feet long, and carries average daily traffic of 3,100 vehicles. Clearwater Construction Inc. of Mercer, is the contractor on this $1.3 million project.
