Parker Dam programs set for July 13-15 Saturday, July 07, 2012 The following is the Interpretive Program schedule at Parker Dam State Park for July 13-15. Friday • Learn the Atlatl: 6 p.m. outside Park Office A "Get Outdoors PA" Program Is it a bow, or a spear, or a slingshot? Well, it may be a little of each. The atlatl, a primitive hunting tool, can be very effective. Learn about its history, how one is made, and even watch as its use is demonstrated. Some folks may even get to try throwing it themselves. • Is That a Skunk?: 8:30 p.m. at the Campground Amphitheater You know them when you see them. You know them when you smell them. But, do you really know a skunk? They are more than a stripe and an odor. Learn more about these common mammals and their amazing abilities when it comes to adapting and survival. Saturday • Nature Walk: 10 a.m., meet outside the Pennsylvania Center at S.B. Elliott State Park A "Get Outdoors PA" Program Nature is neat! But we want everybody to know it. Come along and explore all the nature that we can find and discuss how the things that we do can influence nature and the way that it is. • Kayak Demo Day with Country Squirrel Outfitters: noon to 3 p.m., behind the Beach House A "Get Outdoors PA" Program Learn more about the variety of kayaks available for recreation on flat water and moving water. Several kayaks with various options will be available for you to try out on the lake to see what you like and what you don't. This will be a great opportunity for anyone thinking about purchasing a kayak. • Race for the Bats: 8:30 p.m. at the Campground Amphithe-ater Adaptations used by wildlife for night-time survival are diverse. But when it comes to bats they're one of a kind. Learn more about these amazing animals and the eminent threat to their populations in the Keystone State. If nothing changes, the effects could impact us all. Sunday • Lost and Found-Fur Coat: 3 p.m. at the Beach House steps Anyone know who this fur belongs to? Chances are, it's a resident of Parker Dam State Park. Learn how to identify the fur coats of many of the mammals that call the park home. • Tea and Talk - Wildlife: 6 p.m. at the Beach House steps Sweet fern makes an excellent hot tea. Learn how to identify it and make the tea. Then, try some sweet fern tea for yourself and while enjoying, talk about the many species of wildlife that can be found in the area. The Lou and Helen Adams Civilian Conservation Corps Museum: Open Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
