City of DuBois continues attempt to beautify Friday, July 06, 2012 By Josh Woods Staff Writer DUBOIS - DuBois City Council continued its quest to beautify DuBois at yesterday's work session with a vote to ask a South Brady Street resident to clean up his property. Councilman Randy Schmidt made a motion to send a letter to a South Brady Street resident asking him to cease construction of a new garage, acquire a building permit, and to clean up his property to city specifications within 10 days. All were in favor. Councilwoman Diane Bernardo said council has continued to give residents "two weeks after two weeks after two weeks" to clean up their properties and often no action is taken. Bernardo said extending time to uncooperative residents to clean up is unfair to conscientious residents who work hard to maintain their properties. Schmidt asked Code Enforcement Officer Zac Lawhead for an update on blighted property on Rumbarger Avenue. Lawhead said a citation has been filed against the owner of the Rumbarger Avenue property, and he is waiting to hear back from the magisterial district judge's office. Schmidt said exterior work at the former Fox's Pizza building looks nice and appears to be finished. In other business, council reappointed Essie Quinn and Lee Keith to the property maintenance board of appeals for a 3-year term ending June 24, 2015. Council approved a request from Down to Earth Garden Club to place a bench at the city building in memory of Aline Huey who designed and maintained landscaping there. DuBois City Council's next meeting is Monday at 7 p.m. at the city building.
