Penelec notes power outages Friday, June 29, 2012 The lightning storm that occured last night caused widespread power outages that affected Penelec customers across the area. According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, about 3,000 customers were affected by the storm. There were approximately 25 trouble locations across the area, spanning from Brookville to Black Moshannon State Park. Trees brought down power lines in several areas, and there were also several broken cross arms and poles. As of 8 a.m. today, power had been restored to 2,500 Penelec customers with about 500 remaining out. Crews are working on the remaining outages and expect all customers will be restored today. Customers can view updated outage numbers and affected customers by municipality at Penelec's outage website, http://outages.firstenergycorp.com/pa.html. To report power outages, call Penelec at 1-888-544-4877. Penelec reminds people to stay away from all downed wires, as they may be energized and dangerous.
