Weekend Events Thursday, June 14, 2012 Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Thursday Museum open Grice Community Museum, 119 N. Fourth St., Clearfield, is open through September daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults. The display includes antique and classic cars and wild game mounts from around the world. Group tours are welcome. For more information, call 768-7332.
Quarter auction A quarter auction to benefit the Osceola Mills firehall will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the firehall. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Numerous vendors will be participating, including Holiday House, Celebrating Home, 31, Cookie Lee, At Home America, Elaine Adams Beauty and others. Food will also be available.
Friday Father's Day event Clearfield Mall will hold a Father's Day event Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the mall. There will be cars, food, a flea market, vendors and mall-wide sales. A scavenger hunt will also be featured and mall goers could win a Father's Day gift filled with prizes from local stores. Classic cars are invited to participate. Pick up scavenger hunt lists at "Catch a Wave" across from GNC in the mall.
Yard/bake sale Pleasant Hill Community Center, located on Six Mile Road in Pleasant Hill, will hold a yard/bake sale Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will go toward renovations to the old school house building for the community, under the Decatur Township Water, Sewer and Recreation Authority.
Saturday Auction An auction will be held Saturday at Mahaffey Fire Co. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 6 p.m. Auctioneer is Keith Byers. Proceeds benefit the fire company. For more information, call 277-6639.
Benefit ride Clearfield Cycle Club will host a benefit ride Saturday for a victim of domestic violence. She was burned over 90 percent of her body, is facing numerous medical procedures and has no health insurance. Registration for the ride will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clearfield Driving Park at the pavilion closest to the free stage. A donation of $10 per person is requested and all street legal vehicles are welcome to participate. The ride will end at the CCC's grounds located at Hogback, where there will be a cookout and prizes. For additional information, contact Joe Gordon at 577-7065.
Breakfast An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at Free and Accepted Masons Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515, located at Lingle and Coal streets, Osceola Mills. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, juice and coffee. Proceeds will benefit local charities.
Create a Sundae Night Create A Sundae night will be held Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at the Ohio Community Center, Morgan Run, West Decatur. Sundaes will be $4, which can include favorite toppings.
Pig roast The fifth annual pig roast will be held at Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge No. 480 on Lippert Street in Curwensville Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 per ticket. The dinner includes roasted pork, stuffing, potato salad, baked beans, roll, drink and dessert, all for carryout only. There will be lots of door prizes, but you need not be present to win. Tickets are available from any member or by calling 236-2835 or 236-8968.
Rockton Park yard sale The Rockton Park annual yard sale will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Rockton Ball Field at 9 a.m. Many treasures and crafts will be available, with more than 30 vendors scheduled. There is plenty of parking and food will be available at the park concession stand. Proceeds benefit Union Township Park.
Rummage/bake sale St. Francis School PTO is having a rummage/bake sale fundraiser Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone that would like to donate items for the sale may drop items off at the school Friday from 6-8 p.m. No exercise equipment, appliances or teen/adult clothing. Splash Hop Clear-Centre Community Pool in Osceola Mills will host a Splash Hop event with a disc jockey Saturday from 8-10 p.m. Admission is $4 per person, and the snack stand will serve hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos and cheese. Pool toys are permitted during Splash Hops. For more information, call 339-7122.
Strawberry Festival Boy Scout Troop No. 2 will hold its annual Strawberry Festival Saturday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church in Westminster Hall. The cost is $3.50. Takeouts will be available.
Sunday Auction An auction will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Westover firehall. There will be grocery and miscellaneous items and frozen foods available. Charlie Fisher is the auctioneer. The kitchen will be open. Contact Roger or Judy Young at 672-4119 for more information.
Chicken barbecues A chicken barbecue will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. until sold out at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The price is $8, which includes half a chicken, baked potato, two sides, dessert and drink. --- Westover Area Volunteer Fire Co. is hosting a Father's Day barbecue chicken dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Westover firehall. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children.
Church tour The Union Church (Mud Church), located on Presqueisle Street in Philipsburg, will be open to visitors Sunday from 2-4 p.m., with Philipsburg Historical Foundation Trustee Walter Swoope as host.
Father's Day dinners Holy Trinity Church in Ramey will hold a Father's Day dinner and Strawberry Festival Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. The dinner, prepared by Chef Andy, will include chicken, roast beef, haluski, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw and strawberry shortcake. Reservations or pre-bought tickets are recommended. For tickets, call Jean Neveling at 378-5131 or Alicia Cervenak at 378-7552. Takeouts are available. --- A Father's Day spaghetti dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hyde Fire Co. in the social hall. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs served with tossed salad, roll and drink. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Takeouts are available. Museum open Philipsburg Historical Foundation's museum and research rooms, located on the third floor of the Moshannon Building, 203 N. Front St., will be open Sunday from 2-4 p.m. It will then be open Sundays throughout the summer. Admission is free and donations are accepted.
Shotgun shoot Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Club, Frenchville, will hold a shotgun shoot Sunday. The children's shoot starts at 12:45 p.m. and the cost is $5 for seven rounds. Trophies and prizes will be given for the ages 7-17 group. The adult shoot will be held at 2 p.m. at a cost of $6 for six rounds of shotgun or six rounds rim fire. --- To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number. The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
