Lawrence planners OK zoning change
Wednesday, June 13, 2012
By Wendy Lynn Brion Staff Writer
Several items were reviewed and approved by the Lawrence Township Planning Commission last night.
The first was a formal proposal from Martell Sales and Service to rezone two lots to commercial highway. The lots are located in the Hyde area a short distance from Martell's current location, and the company is looking to expand operations and utilize the lots, but need to have the zoning changed.
The planners approved the proposal and are forwarding it to the supervisors. Sam Yost abstained from voting.
Penn Terra Engineering presented a request from Graystone Court Villas LLC for a conditional use for a senior living dwelling. The proposed building would be located where the multi-service center, formerly the old county home, is located. That area is zoned commercial but senior living is an accepted conditional use.
Also, Graystone wants to build an 87-foot-tall building and will need a conditional use approval to reach 75 feet, as allowed by recent changes to the township's ordinance. The additional amount can only be achieved by a variance from the zoning hearing board. The planners approved part of the plan, which will now go to the zoning board.
Don and Nancy Smeal are requesting a conditional use to operate a fruit and vegetable market, and to sell crafts in the parking area at the old Plymptonville School.
At the moment, plans are to only have the market open on Saturday mornings through the fall. The market is an acceptable conditional use in the limited commercial zoned area.
The next meeting of the planning commission is July 10 at 7 p.m. in the township offices.
