Rep. George receives high school diploma Monday, June 11, 2012 "I told Edna I'd get a diploma someday," state Rep. Camille "Bud" George, D-74 of Houtzdale, quipped Friday night at the Moshannon Valley High School graduation after District Superintendent Tonya DeVecchis-Kerr presented him with an honorary high school diploma. Because George left the Houtzdale High School in 1942 to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he had never received a high school diploma. The matter was resolved Friday night. George was the guest speaker for the graduation ceremonies. In her introduction of George, DeVecchis-Kerr spoke of his many accomplishments during his 38 years as representative of the 74th legislative district, having first been elected in 1974. She added that George, the last remaining WWII veteran in the state House of Representatives, will be retiring at the end of his term this year. In his address to the Moshannon Valley graduating class of 2012, George said the graduates deserve all the honors and congratulations they would receive, adding their parents also deserve recognition for their part in the students' accomplishments. We are all very proud of you, you are graduating from a top-notch school, he said. "All of you have the potential to become diamonds," he added, saying, "In all that you do, put your heart into it and you'll never be a failure. Time is on your side - make the best of it. Be a person of actions, not excuses. Do the right thing."
