Park upgrades completed at Prince Gallitzin State Park
Friday, June 08, 2012
By Terry Whetstone Staff Writer
FLINTON - Prince Gallitzin State Park has undergone some major renovations, as last fall the water level was lowered several feet to allow the work to take place. Initially the water level was to be dropped seven feet, but Park Manager Dennis Miller said it was taken down nine feet to allow the work to be done. The work began last August on the Beaver Valley Boat Launch and the main marina, and the contractors finished the jobs May 15.
New and additional docks  were installed at Beaver Valley. There are now 283 docks and the launch area was redone. The dam was dug deeper at Beaver Valley to allow the boats easier access.
Additional parking was made also at Beaver Valley and an entrance off of Beaver Valley Road was closed to make way for more parking at the boat launch area.
Also at Beaver Valley, where the majority of the work was done, the flag pole area has been redone and lights installed so the flags can stay up all night. In addition, the trails to the dock were made compatible with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
At the main marina, cracked and broken concrete was replaced and there was an ADA access ramp made to the swimming area. A wall was extended another 45 feet. Quite a bit of paving was done as well.
Miller said the lake has been back to full capacity since January.
Gregory Contracting of Sarver had the contract for the $1.5 million project.
Miller said the public reaction has been positive and the changes well received.
All of the docks now have fire extinguishers and life rings as well.
