Two killed in Clearfield County crashes
Monday, March 5, 2012
State police at Clearfield report a pair of fatal accidents occurred Saturday morning in Clearfield County.
At 1:20 a.m., a one-vehicle accident occurred on state Route 255 approximately one mile north of Penfield in Huston Township. David Longo, 58, of Penfield was traveling north when, for an undetermined reason, his vehicle traveled off the east berm and struck a tree head-on.
Longo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clearfield County coroner.
Penfield Fire Department and Bennetts Valley Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
Later, at 11:25 a.m., a second, one-vehicle accident occurred on Goshen Road in Goshen Township. Edward Montini, 72, of Clearfield was traveling north when he negotiated a left curve and his vehicle traveled off the east berm for unknown reasons.
Montini over-steered in an attempt to re-enter the roadway, lost control of his vehicle and it slid sideways back off of the eastern edge of the road. It overturned as it traveled down an embankment and struck a tree with the left side of its roof before coming to rest against a tree.
Montini suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris.
Clearfield Emergency Medical Services, Lawrence Township Fire Department and Goshen Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
