Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number. The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Thursday
Museums open
Grice Clearfield Community Museum, located at Fourth and Pine streets, Clearfield, will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. The museum features more than 80 antique and classic show cars from the 1940s, ‘50s, ‘60s, and more. More than 500 trophy game animal mounts featuring elk, whitetails, mule deer, bears, moose, lions, rhinos, and many others adorn the walls.
Cost is $5 for adults, and children younger than 12 are admitted free with an adult. Group rates are available. The museum includes a gift shop and free parking. The museum will be open through Sept. 30. For more information, call 768-7332.

The Clearfield County Historical Society Museum, located at 104 E. Pine St., Clearfield, will be open today from 1:30-4:30 p.m. It will continue to be open each Thursday and Sunday through Oct. 31. Admission is free to the three floors of the museum and the Carriage House with many additional displays. Every room inside the museum that is open to the public has been completely renovated including the dining room that is refurbished and developed into a research room for the ever-expanding records. Genealogy committee members and board members are on hand to assist visitors in the library. No large backpacks, briefcases or purses are allowed in the museum. There is a $5 charge for genealogy research. Many books relating to Clearfield County history and others are available for sale.
Both the museum property and the Bloody Knox Log Cabin at Kellytown in Knox Township are available year round for tours by appointment. Call 765-6125 and leave a message. Art show
Susquehanna River Arts Center announced a new art show is on display at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield. This month's featured artists are Sam Yost and Kemberly Duckett, both of Clearfield.

SRAC announced a new art show titled "Open Show, Anything Goes!" has been hung at the Clearfield Hospital, first floor.
This show features artwork of SRAC members and continues through Sept. 18. This show is under the direction of Gloria Rowles, Anna Marie Toto and Dottie Evans.

Friday
Rummage sale

Osceola Mills United Methodist Church, 309 Curtin St., Osceola Mills, will have a rummage sale Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church basement. The sale benefits the church, and baked goods will also be available.
Singles dance/karaoke
New Horizons Singles Club is holding its first dance/social karaoke night on Friday at the DuBois Veterans of Foreign Wars, 114 Fuller St., from 8-11 p.m. New Horizons member DJ Big Al will provide the entertainment. Costs are $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers. It is casual dress and everyone is asked to bring some type of finger food to share. Those who would like to sing can bring their own vocals if they wish.

Saturday
Auction
An auction will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Winburne firehall, 1162 Main St.
All items are new and there will be produce and frozen food items.
The kitchen will be open during the event. Also, there will be 50/50 drawings and small games of chance.

Barbecued chicken dinner
A barbecued chicken dinner will be served Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. at Harmony Grange. The cost is $7 per person. Dinners may be eaten at the grange hall or taken out. The grange is located at 5386 Ridge Road near Westover. Proceeds benefit the projects of the grange.
Benefit events
A benefit for Robin Vos will be held Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at Mahaffey firehall. Donation is $10 per ticket and a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. Vos of McGees Mills is a breast cancer survivor who was recently diagnosed with lesions on her brain.
The evening's events include a pig roast, music by Just Us, a raffle and a Chinese auction.

The Florence Jean Cancer Benefit will be held Saturday at the Wagon Wheel Amphitheater on Sleepy Hollow Road in Philipsburg from noon to 9:30 p.m. Gates open at noon with games and contests for all. There is a $5 charge for the entire day of music and entertainment.
The entertainment schedule includes Jim Verbeck and the Open Stage Band from noon to 12:30 p.m., Dirty Angus featuring Dan Hirschbiel and friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Epitomy of Irony from 1:30-2 p.m., Wade Flick and the Wednesday Night Jammers from 2-3 p.m., Buck Street Boys from 3-6 p.m. and the Silver Eagle Band from 6:30-9 p.m.
Chicken dinners and concessions will be available. There will also be a dice run coinciding with the event. Registration is at Philipsburg American Legion John Ashley Dennis Jr. Post No. 437 from 10-11:45 a.m. The run begins at noon.

All proceeds from the entrance fee, dinners and dice run will go to the Florence Jean Cancer Fund. The money collected is deposited at CNB Bank and exclusively used for people with local needs.

Catfish tournament
The Curwensville Anglers Restocking Program will hold a catfish tournament starting Saturday at 8 p.m. Check in and registration will be held Sunday at 8 a.m. at PJ Bressler's Bait and More, Curwensville. For more information call 236-2502.
Shoe bank
The West Branch Area Shoe Bank will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Morrisdale United Methodist Church, located along state Route 53, Morrisdale.
Children from newborns to age 18 will be given new socks and sneakers if they have CHIP or Access cards. There is also a large selection of gently used shoes for everyone.
Spaghetti dinner
Philipsburg's Spike Island Pirates, a member of the Centre County Baseball League, will hold a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 3-6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 509 Presqueisle St., Philipsburg. The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert and beverage. Takeouts will also be available. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the team or at the door for $7 each.
All proceeds will be used to fund the Philipsburg team.

Sunday
Historical sites open
The Philipsburg Historical Foundation's museum and research rooms, located on the third floor of the Moshannon Building, 203 N. Front St., the Union Church, 607 Presqueisle St., and the Simler House, 100 N. Second St., will be open Sundays from 2-4 p.m. throughout the summer.
Admission is free and donations are accepted.
