Lady Bisons win Thunder on the Mountain Tournament
Monday, April 19, 2010
MILL HALL - The Clearfield softball team tripled its season win total in one fell swoop Saturday, winning the Thunder on the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain with victories over Brockway, 3-0, and Altoona, 4-2.
Lady Bison freshman Heather Picard (3-3) did not allow an earned run in the tournament to pick up both wins in the circle, while Andrea Butler had five hits on three runs scored across the two games.
Picard was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
"We played hard and got better, and we want to keep getting better," Clearfield head coach Bob Dixon said.
Clearfield opened the tournament by blanking Brockway, as Picard allowed only five hits while striking out 15.
Butler was 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the third, while McKenzie Moore had a hit and two runs knocked in for the Lady Bisons.
In the championship game versus Altoona, Butler led off the batting order with three hits, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Suzie Colesar and B.J. Bowman each added three hits, with Bowman also picking up a solo bomb, two runs scored and two RBIs. Moore and Chantell Read both had multi-hit games.
Clearfield (3-5) is back in action today with a road contest at Williamsport.
