Fire destroys home at Treasure Lake
Tuesday, December 8, 2009
DUBOIS - Sandy Township Fire Department responded to a structure fire Sunday at 11:21 p.m. at 73 Rum Point Court, Treasure Lake
No one was home at the one-story house with attached double garage, reported department Chief Bob Wilson. The house, owned by Jason Whitaker, was collapsing into the basement when firefighters arrived on scene.
The structure was insured and is a total loss. Damage is estimated at $90,000.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury due to a fall on the ice. Also, a cat died in the fire.
"Everyone did a good job and I want to thank everyone who helped," said Wilson.
All Sandy Township units and J.E. DuBois Fire Co. and Falls Creek Fire Department responded. Standby units included Union Township at its station and Sykesville at West Sandy Fire Co.
The Treasure Lake Property Owner's Association maintenance department kept ashes on the road due to water freezing up and the Sandy Township police and the DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross were on scene. The Red Cross provides assistance to families to meet their emergency needs and food and drinks for the emergency response personnel on scene.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit, Sandy Township Police Department and the Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Department chief are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
