CCAAA elects officers; funding unchanged Wednesday, November 25, 2009 By Liza Matia Staff Writer The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging elected officers at yesterday's board meeting. R. Denning Gearhart was reappointed as president, with Doug Rydberg serving as vice president, Peggy Amon as secretary, and Marcia Belin as treasurer. Along with Amon, Mary Golemboski, Mark McCracken, Scott Meredith and Wilson Fisher were reappointed to the board of directors.fpbreak On Nov. 13, the agency received allocation figures for the current fiscal year. According to Executive Director John Kordish, the figures were neither increased nor decreased. He said that opportunities for growth do exist within the agency, primarily in the Medical Waiver, Nutrition, and Nursing Home Transition programs. Kordish said the agency would also be able to compete for one-time funding for up to $15,000. The Blizzard Boxes campaign has officially closed, but Kordish said the agency continues to receive donations for the program. So far, approximately $10,000 has been raised. According to Sue Kordish, the program is exclusively funded by local efforts. Recently, the program received an "incredible boost" from the Walmart Distribution Center, where the packing for the program now takes place. Staff at the facility also assisted AAA staff in packing boxes. All the boxes used in the program were donated by Walmart. Also at yesterday's meeting, the board approved revisions to the bylaws. Included in the revisions is the opportunity for board members to attend monthly meetings via video conferencing. "I think it'll be a great addition," John Kordish said. The Tree of Stars campaign is currently under way at the CCAAA. The fundraiser benefits the Meals on Wheels and More program as well as in-home services. The next meeting is set for noon on Dec. 22.
