Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community.
All events are open to the public.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number.
The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.

Art shows
The Susquehanna River Arts Center announces a new members' showcase is being held at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield. It features the work of Christion Iraca, illustration, and Dan Mohney, photography. This exhibit will be held through Nov. 28. For SRAC information call 765-5621 or 765-5975.

An art show titled "The Season of Fall" is being held at the Clearfield Hospital on the first floor. The paintings are the work of local artists. The show is under the direction of Anna Marie Toto and Dottie Evans, assisted by Gloria Rowles. For information call 765-5621 or 765-5975.
Sauerkraut supper
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Philipsburg, will hold its annual sauerkraut supper Thursday from 4-6 p.m.
Prices are $8 for adults, $4 for children younger than 12 and free for children younger than 3. Takeouts will be available.
Also, a handmade quilt and an afghan will be given away; chances are $1 each.

Auction
A benefit auction for the Madera B&B Park will be held Friday at the Bigler Township building in Madera. This will be a Christmas and more auction. The auction will begin at 5 p.m. Five consigners with different merchandise will be there, and there will be baked goods for sale from the fudge shop in Osceola Mills. Admittance is free. The kitchen will be open.
Saturday
Auction
LeContes Mills Volunteer Fire Co. will hold an auction Saturday at 6 p.m. with produce, frozen food, collectibles and various other household items. There will also be grab bags, 50/50 drawings, and door prizes at the end of the night. The kitchen will open at 5 p.m.

Breakfast
An all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast featuring homemade sausage and liverwurst and regular and buckwheat pancakes to benefit the Clearfield County Fair Queen's "Queens for Kids" program will be held Saturday from 6-11 a.m. in the Expo I building at the Clearfield Driving Park. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children age 10 and younger. Takeouts will be available.
Proceeds go to Children's Miracle Network. The sausage and liverwurst will be prepared by Joe Wriglesworth, and 2009 Clearfield County Fair Queen Rachel Syktich and her court will be assisting in the meal preparation and serving.
Christmas bazaar
The 22nd annual Allemansville United Methodist Church Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church basement. There will be crafts for the holidays, gift giving and everyday items, as well as baked goods, homemade soups and sandwiches for eat-in or takeout.
Craft show/bake sale
Glen Hope United Methodist Church will hold a craft show and bake sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit the roof fund of the church.
Craft fair
The Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church on state Route 550 near Stormstown is holding a holiday craft fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature crafts, Christmas and seasonal items, homemade soup, baked goods and lunch items. Fall bazaar
Gethsemane United Methodist Church will hold a fall bazaar on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, baked goods, fruitcakes, homemade soup and white elephant items.
Family fair
A "Keeping Kids Safe" Family Fair in celebration of Pennsylvania's Promise for Children Week will be held on Saturday at the Bigler YMCA from noon to 2 p.m. The fair will consist of free activities for children, free children's book giveaways, puppet shows, storybook readings and visits from the Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Volunteer Fire Co. and the state police. Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be given away throughout the day.
The fair is sponsored by the Clearfield County Community Engagement for Early Care and Education Group, the Local Interagency Council, Bigler YMCA, Philipsburg Child Development Center and the Central Intermediate Unit.

Free winter clothes
Free gloves, hats, scarves, and coats will be available Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Emmanuel Methodist Thrift Shoppe, 1010 Dorey St., Clearfield. Children's coats will also be available.
Holiday bake sale
A holiday bake sale will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the basement at St. John's Byzantine Church, Hawk Run. There will be holupki for sale, all types of baked goods, pies and cakes, and soups for the holidays. Lunch will be available.
Shoe banks
The Community Shoe Bank of the Ramey area will be held Saturday at Ramey United Methodist Church in the social room from 9 a.m. to noon. The shoe bank serves children in the Moshannon Valley and Glendale school districts. Children age 3-18 may visit every six months, and children age 0-2 may visit every three months. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must present their current Access or CHIP card. There are also gently used shoes available for everyone. Use the basement entrance at the rear of the church.

Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg, will hold its Shoe Bank on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Children from infant to age 18 will receive a new pair of sneakers for free. They must have an Access or CHIP card. The child must be present to be measured and receive the shoes. Children will receive a pair of sneakers every six months; children younger than 3 will receive a new pair every three months.

Teen dance
The Curwensville Moose Family Center No. 268 will sponsor a teen dance Saturday from 7-10 p.m. at the center, located at the Curwensville Industrial Park.
Admission is $1 per person. The kitchen will be open. A door prize drawing will be held. Anyone leaving the dance prior to the end will not be readmitted.
Turkey dinner
The Sanborn Church of God will host its third annual turkey dinner at the Sanborn Grange Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. The dinner is open to everyone and is free of charge. Eat-in, takeout and delivery service are available.
Free country music
Local musicians will provide free country music Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hickory Grange on Mountain Run Road in Sabula. The grange kitchen will be open.
Sunday
Auction
A benefit auction for the Hyde Fire Co. will be held at the firehall in Hyde Sunday. This will be a Christmas and more auction. The auction will begin at 2 p.m. Four consigners with different merchandise will be there, there will be baked goods for sale, including fudge from Osceola Mills. Admittance is free. The kitchen will be open.

Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386 will serve breakfast Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m.
The menu includes ham and eggs, fries, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $4 for adults and $2 for children younger than 12.
Christmas fair
St. Barbara's annual Christmas fair will be held Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the parish hall in Houtzdale. There will be a roast beef dinner with prices of $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10. There will also be a Chinese auction, bake sale and assorted raffles. The event is sponsored by St. Barbara's Women's Adoration Society.
Holiday bazaar
Clearfield Starz will hold a holiday bazaar at the Starz gym in Hyde on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be more than 30 craft vendors and food available. A chicken barbecue will be available for $8 per dinner. Santa Claus will be there.
Museum open
The Coalport Area Coal Museum, located in the Coalport Community building at 916 Forest St., is open every Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
The museum houses more than 350 artifacts in 17 displays, featuring the original tools, equipment, texts, photos, scale-model and full-size replicas of the area's coal mining heritage. In addition, a comprehensive collection of genealogical materials from the local Glendale Valley area (including all cemetery listings and more than 4,600 indexed obituaries) is in the library/reference room.

Shotgun shoot
The Glendale Sportsmen's Club will hold a shotgun shoot on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse off Black Elk Road outside of Irvona. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds, and shells will be provided. There will be two prizes awarded in each round.

Turkey dinner
A turkey dinner will be served Sunday at Columbia Fire Co. firehall, Osceola Mills, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Featured will be turkey, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, roll and dessert. A full salad bar is available for eat-in only. Prices are $9 for adults and $6 for children. Takeouts are available. Delivery is available by calling 339-6601 on the day of the dinner before noon. Proceeds benefit the fire company.
Turkey shoot
Cooper Township Sportsmen's Club will hold a turkey shoot Sunday at the range in Winburne starting at 2 p.m. The cost is $1.50 per round.
