Centre County DA defeated by challenger Wednesday, November 04, 2009 BELLEFONTE - It wasn't a good night for the incumbents in Centre County as the voters turned out yesterday to voice their opinions on the ballot and an incumbent in the county races had to face defeat. The end result is a brand new Centre County district attorney. Democratic challenger Stacy Parks Miller cleaned up on Republican incumbent Michael Madeira as she garnered 16,349 votes, 64.66 percent, to Madeira's 8,902 votes, or 35.21 percent. There were 33 write-in votes. In another county race on the ballot, Republican Hope P. Miller will be the lead jury commissioner as she received 83 more votes than Democrat Ruth L. Luse. Luse garnered 11,824 votes to Miller's 11,907. There were 28 write-in votes. In the two magisterial district judge races, Thomas Jordan ran unopposed on the Democrat and Republican ticket for the 49-03-04 seat. He ran and garnered 3,456 (99.22 percent) of the votes. There were 27 write-ins. In the race for the 49-03-05 magisterial district, Judge Jonathan Grine also ran unopposed on both tickets and he took 1,493 (98.42 percent) of the votes. There were 24 write-ins. In Centre County the voter turnout was 26.07 percent of the registered voters. There are 98,678 total voters in Centre County and of those, 25,728 turned out at the polls. The breakdown was 2,592 (51.56 percent) Democrats; 2,376 (47.26 percent) Republicans; 42 (.84 percent) Libertarian; and 17 (.34 percent) Independents.
